The evolution towards Maximo 7.1
• Maximo 4 – Thick Client Database application
• Maximo 5 – Web-based Java EE application
• Maximo 6 – New functionality, Application Designer, enhanced
security, workflow
• Maximo 7.1 – First IBM release, the topic of today’s webcast• Maximo 7.1 – First IBM release, the topic of today’s webcast
Business Benefits – New Capabilities
• Linear Assets – pipelines, roads, railways, etc.
– Handles segments, e.g. create and view work orders from mile post 1a
through 12b
– Is licensed as a separate module, not part of base package
• Conditional Expressions
– Define conditions based on field values (e.g. statuses, owners, etc.)– Define conditions based on field values (e.g. statuses, owners, etc.)
– Labor records with pay-rates, only HR people can see those
– Access based on a record’s field value: e.g. MOC Work orders can only be
viewed by MOC persons.
– Data restrictions are applied before the record is fetched: allows for secure
and sensitive data management
Business Benefits – New Capabilities – Cont.
• Improved Work Order Task management – Task Application
– Start and stop individual tasks through assignments
– Use a timer to indicate start and finish
– Application automatically logs elapsed time against the work order
• Improved Work Order Management
– Multiple assets on a single work order
– Attach documents at the task level
– Automatically set task in progress upon completion of previous task
– Ability to prevent tasks from starting before the previous is completed
– Classification Attributes (in addition to just classifications in v6)
Business Benefits – New Capabilities – Cont.
• Routes
– Routes can now create, for each route stop:

– Invoke external systems within Maximo, driven from Workflow, Escalations,
Select Action, etc.
• Management of System Properties within the application
Reports
• Maximo now support multiple report engines
• Report engines can be utilized from within Maximo “Run Reports”
menus
• Out-of-the box reports are with BIRT
Our implementation experiences with 7.1 so far
• Completed two implementations – last one just went Live
• System requirements have increased significantly
– Maximo no longer ships with BEA Weblogic, only IBM Websphere
– MUST have at least 4 GB of RAM for any size deployment, 8 GB would be our
recommendation
• Installation experience• Installation experience
• System admin
• Report Development
• Any bugs…?
