NEWS FROM THE IASK BOARD

It is Winter now on the northern part of our globe, Summer on the southern part. Wherever you are, we hope you are having a great time with yourself, your family, friends and colleagues and with Kinesiology.

We want to keep you updated on information about the work of the IASK Board

The work of the IASK Board The Board is still having conference calls on Skype, and we feel each of us as well as our work profit a lot from this monthly communication. It is not always easy to have ALL board members online at the same time, but nevertheless we get a lot of work done.

Conference and AGM in Barcelona, Spain. September 20 & 21, 2008, there was a conference in Barcelona, Spain on “Quantum Physics and Kinesiology”. Two of the IASK board members, Annemarie Goldschmidt and Diego Vellam were among the speakers. Both presentations were well accepted. On Saturday afternoon we had the Annual General Meeting, and you will find the minutes from the AGM attached. Two of the board members elected in 2007 have decided to leave the board again due to lack of time.

The 2009 Conference. As you already know if you have read the latest information IASK will participate in the 2009 conference together with the Energy Kinesiology Association (EnKA) and the Touch for Health Kinesiology Association (TFHKA) in the US. The Board is very busy preparing this conference.

Two of the IASK board members, Ann McFerron and Annemarie Goldschmidt, participated in the 2008 conference in Sacramento, California. Also, they participated in several meetings and conference calls with Marge Bowen and Kathie Guhl from EnKA about the details in the planning of the contents of this 2009 conference. Kathie Guhl from EnKA and Erica Williams, who is VP of Conferences for EnKA have agreed to be the communication officers between EnKA + IASK and the TFHKA, who has recently made arrangements with a professional management company to help them reorganize their organization and help with the conference arrangements.

You will be able to find the information about registration for the 2009 conference at www.tfhka.org. You will also find information about tuition, early bird-offers etc. Please keep in mind that by joining IASK and paying the membership fee of 40 € you can save part of the tuition. Do not forget, when registering, to mention that you are a member of IASK!

All the registrations will be processed by the management company, Donn Eurich Company, who will also keep track of payments etc. Please note, that when you contact the Hyatt Hotel for room reservations, you need to state that you are part of the KINESIOLOGY CONFERENCE. You can also register for the hotel online.

Membership In this Newsletter you will also find the letter of renewal of your membership. We encourage you to update your membership and to make sure that you fill out the directory form. This will give you the advantage of introducing yourself and your workshop etc on the IASK webpage.

Miscellanous.

Some good news! A group of researchers in Denmark, including your IASK president have received a grant of the equivalent of about $100,000 to do research in :

“The Kinesiological Body”.

“An Anthropological Study of the Kinesiology Worldview analyzed through the body narratives”

It is a great thing to be a part of this research which started October 1, 2009, and will be coming to an end in the Summer of 2010.

On behalf of the IASK Board I wish you all the best for the 2009. We do hope to be seeing you in Washington DC in July, 2009.

MINUTES OF THE 2008 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SPECIALIZED KINESIOLOGISTS - IASK

BARCELONA, SPAIN – SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2008

Held during the International Symposium of Kinesiology and Quantum Physics

Escola Universitario d´Infermeria, Fisioterapia i Nutricia Blanquerna University Ramon Llull

Present: Board members: Verônica Affonso, Birgitta Birath, Annemarie Goldschmidt, Nicolette Peyre and Diego Vellam ; Excused : Board members : Ann Mc Ferron, Sylviane Benacher-Vrillonneau 1 - WELCOME BY THE PRESIDENT Annemarie Goldschmidt opened the meeting at 5:45 p.m. and welcomed everybody in the room. She then asks the Board members to introduce themselves. 2 - PROCLAMATION OF CHAIRPERSON Following the Board’s proposal, Diego Vellam was proclaimed Chairperson of the AGM. Diego thanked the participants. 3 - PROCLAMATION OF RECORDING SECRETARY Following the Board’s proposal, Nicolette was proclaimed Recording Secretary for the AGM. 4 - APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE 2007 DAMMARIE-LES-LYS AGM The President mentioned the different items on the Agenda and summarizes the conclusions. The minutes from the AGM held in Dammarie-les-Lys, France in 2007, were unanimously approved. Answering a question about the number of Board members, the President, Annemarie Goldschmidt, explains that last year in Dammarie three (3) new members were elected on the Board : Ann McFerron (USA), Alain Vignogna (Switzerland) and Muna Ghareeb Ali (Kuweit). This AGM will need to give discharge to two of those three board members who are leaving the Board : Alain Vignogna and Muna Ghareeb Ali. Currently there are seven (7) board members : Annemarie Goldschmidt (Denmark), President ; Verônica Affonso (Brazil), Vice-President ; Ann McFerron (USA), Secretary ; Sylviane Benacher-Vrillonneau (France), Acting Treasurer ; Birgitta Birath (Sweden), Nicolette Peyre (Belgium) and Diego Vellam (Italy), Board members. 5 – REPORT FROM THE PRESIDENT In 2007 we held the AGM in Dammarie-les-Lys in France. This year, 2008, we had our AGM in Barcelona, Spain. We feel privileged to be housed by the co-ordinators of the International Symposium on Kinesiology and Quantics Physics. In 2007 two of our board members, Birgit Nielsen and Kathie Guhl left us in order to concentrate their energy in their teaching and their daily practice with clients. Ann McFerron from the US, Muna Ghareeb Ali from Kuwait and Alain Virgnogna from Switzerland were nominated and elected. Alain became our new treasurer, as Sylviane Vrillonneau wanted to be freed of the responsibilities of being treasurer. Annemarie was accepted as the new president instead of Nicolette Peyre, Verônica Affonso became the new vice-president, and Nicolette Peyre stayed on the Board as just “Board member” The work since May, 2007: The new year started with Boardmeetings before we left to go home to our own countries. The rest of the year was rather slow, but Birgit and Annemarie participated in the TFHKA + EnKA conference in Salt Lake City, and here Annemarie introduced the idea, that the 2009 conference be organized as a joint venture between IASK, EnKA and TFHKA. Everybody at the conference applauded the idea. The next time we met in person was in January, 2008, for two very intense Board-meeting days in France in the home of Sylviane Vrillonneau. Lots of things got done. We are in fact very good at cooperating, and we are able to work late hours. At the meeting we made the decision, that we would have conference calls on Skype every first Monday of the month. That has worked wonderfully for us. It is a good way to stay in contact and to get things done. We are – as you will know – a widespread board, USA, Brazil, Kuwait, France, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark.

Page 7: IASK Newsletter English January 2009… · Sweden – Board member Swedish, English, German + 46 871 03 646 birgitta.birath@swipnet.se birgitta.birath@glocalnet.net Nicolette Peyre

7

Changes Unfortunately our two new-elected board members, Alain Vignogna and Muna Ghareeb Ali almost never showed up at our conference calls. It is kind of discouraging when somebody takes a position and in spite of that never participate in the work. Alain Vignogna, our treasurer, wrote an e-mail in July announcing his resignation. This means that we will ask the members at this AGM to give Alain discharge. The same goes for Muna Ghareeb Ali. As we never heard from her, she received a letter in August asking her to make up her mind to fulfill the position at the Board, or kindly resign. No answer so far. This means that we as a board will ask you to give her discharge as well. Our treasurer for many years, Sylviane Vrillonneau, wanted to have a new position at the board from the day of our AGM in France. It was, of course, granted her, and we thanked her for the very good job she had done on the conference as well as the treasurer-job. 2008 is not a year for new election, so you will have time from now on and until July, 2009, to think about being nominated or to nominate another person for a position on the board. You can even nominate yourself. We can promise you, that there is work to do, and that you will be very welcome. Conference 2009 IASK arranges conferences every second year. As we did so in 2007, the next year will be 2009. As mentioned earlier in this report, the 2009 conference will be a joint venture between IASK and other kinesiology organizations. The theme will be “The World of Kinesiology”, and you can sign up using the registration form at the TFHKA website www.TFHKA.org. You will also find a link at www.energyk.org , and within short time also at www.iask.org. We have arranged with Kathie Guhl, former president for EnKA (Energy Kinesiology Association USA) that she will be the conference coordinator, and when Annemarie was in Sacramento, California, USA in June for the EnKA – TFHKA conference several meetings were held between the presidents of the three organizations, and between the EnKA and TFHKA boards.. It has turned out that TFHKA has some financial problems, and is going through a period of re-organization. So we are waiting for their decision in which way they want to participate in the 2009 conference. Arlene Green from TFHKA got the idea that “each one brings one” to the 2009 conference, and she even committed herself to bring 25 persons. What good idea and energy. Marge Bowen, the president of EnKA, sends her warmest greetings, telling you how happy she is to arrange this conference together with two other organizations, and she is looking forward to meet many IASK members in Washington DC from July 17 through 20, 2009. Actions in the next year: The board would like you to come up with ideas which will assist IASK in fulfilling its aims and goals. And, please, if you introduce an idea, tell us, too, which kind of active role you yourself will play in the implementation of the idea. Who, for instance, would like to be part of the conference-group? Who has more good ideas about our communication with the members? Who knows about how to put together a research project? I will end this report by wishing a good and prosperous New IASK Year. Let´s meet in Washington DC, where also the next AGM shall be held. Thank you. Annemarie Goldschmidt, IASK President 6 – FINANCIAL REPORT Nicolette presented the financial report prepared by Sylviane Vrillonneau, acting treasurer in lieu of Alain Vignogna, who resigned in July. Fabio França and Philippe Bombeck checked the accounts and reported that they were clear. She invited members who wished for more details to come and have a look at the financial documents. On December 31, 2007, the income balance totalled 16.673,76 euros. The balance is very good for several reasons : All board members pay for all their own expenses, including conference fees, travel, hotel etc. including all meals except one per Board meeting, twice a year.

Page 8: IASK Newsletter English January 2009… · Sweden – Board member Swedish, English, German + 46 871 03 646 birgitta.birath@swipnet.se birgitta.birath@glocalnet.net Nicolette Peyre

8

The Board has also been cutting expenses wherever possible and realized that E-mailing is cheap but not effective enough and that we needs to send renewal letters and some news by regular mail. Thus there should be more expenses next year. The Board is very keen to foster research in Kinesiology and would like, in time, to see part of the ‘surplus’ money to go to research projects. The Chairperson asked the members to vote the discharge of the outgoing members of the Board, Alain Vignogna and Muna Ghareeb Ali. They were discharged unanimously. The Chairperson asked the members to approve the accounts. The General Assembly approved the accounts unanimously. 7- WEBSITE AND NEWSLETTER: The Board's endeavor to improve our website as often as possible. If you spot errors or have comments or suggestions for the website and the Newsletter, please let us know ☺ The Board needs your help to fill up the Country pages. We would be grateful is you would send us the standards you use in your national professional associations as well as your Code of Ethics and other useful information. As a first step you can send them in your own language. We also need your help to get together our Research page so that everyone can have access to completed or on-going research projects. The Board reminds you also that once you have wired your dues, you need to fill in your own information. You can download the form from the website and send it back to [email protected]. Do not forget that you can also send information about yourself and/or your schedule (an A4 page in word or pdf). The Board wants to keep IASK members abreast of what’s happening more frequently than has been the case. We have chosen to add to the mailing of our bi-yearly Newsletter, regular E-mails containing News from the Board. You might have already received some of them. If not, please let us know and we shall check your E-mail address. 8 - MEMBERSHIP AND DUES The Board suggested that the dues remain the same Supporting members : €20 ; Regular members : €40 ; Associate members : €100 The proposal was accepted by the members 9 – NOMINATIONS: The President, Annemarie Goldschmidt, already mentioned that point in her report. The Board is looking forward to receiving your suggestions for nominations. You can also nominate yourself for the elections that will be held next year, during the Joint Conference in the USA. Denise Saint-Arroman, France, has already expressed her interest in joining the Board. 10 - DATE AND PLACE OF THE NEXT CONFERENCES AND AGM 2009 IASK and TFHKA and EnKA will arrange the joint conference in Washington DC from July 17 through July 20, 2009. The 2009 AGM will be held during this conference on Saturday, July 18 in the afternoon or evening. 2011 Conference and AGM : It will be held in Brazil. We have had many conferences in Europe (Copenhagen in 1999, Frankfurt in 2003, Copenhagen in 2005, Paris in 2007), the 2009 Conference will be held in the United States of America and we will be in South America in 2011. We will let you know as soon as we have more details. 11 - MISCELLANEOUS We had a lively discussion initiated by Francis Vieules about Ethics and the need for IASK to state a few obvious facts about muscle-testing or muscle-monitoring. The board is going to come up with such a text with the help of Francis and other interested members. The Chairperson thanked all the members for their participation and brought the AGM to a close at 7.15 p.m. Report drafted by Nicolette Peyre
