1. 30TH JANUARY 2014: Seminar on “Telemedicine Networks” Number of Attendees: 120

IEEE AIUB Student Branch arranged a technical seminar on Telemedicine Networks titled “Devising Distributed Telemedicine Network Disrupting Healthcare”. The seminar was targeted towards students who have interests in pursuing a career in Biomedical Instruments. The guest speaker was Mr. Jobayer Ahmed, Founder & Chief Marketing Officer of NEXTSTEP INTERACTIVE, an ITES company. Mr. Shuvra Saha, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering also gave his speech on the topic.The seminar mainly covered the basics of improving Medicaid through telemedicine network. Nextstep Interactive, an ITES company in Bangladesh, has designed and implemented a telemedicine healthcare cart named “SEBIKA”.

2. 8th FEBRUARY 2014: New Member OrientationNumber of Attendees: 170

IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized an orientation program for the new members. The program was initiated by Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan and Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain (Senior Lecturer, former IEEE AIUB SB Counselor). The event continued with a presentation by Mr. Mohammad Taufiquzzaman (IEEE AIUB SB Chair 2014) who illustrated a brief overview on IEEE and its benefits. Mr. Almeer Ahsan Asif (IEEE AIUB SB Chair 2013) then discussed how to make the system better and effective in the future. Mr. Manzur H. Khan (Director, Office of Students Affairs) welcomed all the new members and admired about the activities of AIUB IEEE Student Branch. Crests and certificates were handed to the former Executive Board members and Volunteers in recognition for their contribution towards the IEEE AIUB Student Branch in 2013. New Executive Board members of the 2014 were announced. Member ID cards, ribbons and food were given out to the new members.

3. 19th MARCH 2014: A Seminar on “Introduction & Implementation of MULTISIM” Number of Attendees: 100

A seminar entitled “Introduction and Implementation of MULTISIM” was organized by IEEE AIUB Student Branch to give students an overview of the software MULTISIM. This allowed students to habitually learn the basics of the software and further improve their. Ms. Humaira Salmin, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, initiated the seminar by giving a brief idea about the history of MULTISIM. Following the introduction Mr. Adnan

Mohammad, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, went into the basics of MULTISIM, starting off by showing how to install the software properly. A brief theory was discussed and implementation of a circuit using MULTISIM was displayed step by step so that students could follow the procedure and execute the instruction simultaneously. Next, Mr. Rakibul Hafiz, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, demonstrated implementation of the “3-bit Synchronous and Asynchronous Counter Circuits”.

4. 29th MARCH 2014: ANNUAL RECREATIONAL TOUR Number of Attendees: 140

Away from the everyday routine student life, IEEE AIUB student branch organized a day long Recreational Tour in the greenery of Dream Square Resort, Gazipur on the 29th of March, Saturday. The entertainment packed event included bus ride, refreshments and lunch, a lively session of various games, boat riding, a performance on the ICC T20 world cup song by the students followed by a DJ party. The recreational tour ended with prize giving ceremony among the game winners. Participation of students, volunteers and faculties strengthened the bonding and mutual respect and admiration.

5. 2ND APRIL 2014 SEMINAR on ‘KNOWLEDGE SHARE OF ENGINEERING IN THE FIELD’

Number of Attendees: 100

To brighten the minds with the glimpse of light of engineering knowledge, IEEE AIUB STUDENT BRANCH organized a seminar entitled ‘Knowledge share of engineering in the field’. The seminar was initiated with a charm welcome from Mr. Rethwan Faiz, Lecturer, and Faculty of Engineering who introduced four successful, experienced and prosperous alumnus of the EEE department. Ms. Nurhan Jaigirdar(Senior Sales Engineer, Kaltimex Energy Bangladesh),Ms. Elisun Ali (Design Engineer (R&D), Adex Corporation Ltd),Mr. Muhammad

Faheem Faruq (Project Engineer, Faruq M&E Consultants) and Mr. Ahmed Shaeek (Junior Engineer, Mott Macdonalds Bangladesh) were the respective speakers of the event who gave adequate knowledge of capability to work in practical life. They shared their experiences related to the fields they are working with and added the logistics, methods in working with the various sectors of power solution companies, power developing companies and energy resources companies. They also emphasized the need of excellence in fluent speaking of English, competency in working with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office etc. beside engineering knowledge, and practical experiences related to these fields.

6. IEEE AIUB STUDENT BRANCH Attended Annual Dinner 2014 by IEEE Bangladesh SectionNumber of Attendees: 40

IEEE AIUB SB participated on the IEEE Annual Dinner-2014 at BUET Central Cafeteria. The event was organized by IEEE Bangladesh Section. It was a great evening where all the student branches of IEEE Bangladesh section were on the same floor interacting & getting connected with each other. IEEE Bangladesh Section Chairperson, General Secretary & WIE Chairperson gave their speeches which mainly emphasized on the betterment of the branch activities. The event ended with a delicious dinner which was served and organized by IEEE BUET SB.

7. 17TH APRIL 2014 Seminar on “Higher Study in Asian Institute of Technology(AIT), Thailand’’Number of Attendees: 120

IEEE AIUB Student Branch presented a seminar on “Higher Study in Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand’’. The seminar aimed to enlighten students chiefly about postgraduate study opportunities at AIT, an institution which promotes development through higher education and research. The seminar commenced with a few words from Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering; Mr. Taskin Jamal, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & former student of AIT gave the biography of the speakers. Prof. Nazrul Islam, Visiting professor, School of Management, AIT, Dr. Pakkeerthamby Abdul Salam, Assistant Professor, AIT and Mr. Fazle Karim, Senior Program Specialist, AIT represented the institution and highlighted several aspects which might interest Bangladeshi students for studying in AIT. Dr. Pakeerthamby Abdul Salam emphasized on the scope of Energy Field of study as well as requirements and scholarship information for studying in AIT. Prof Nazrul Islam discussed the practical reasons of why one should choose AIT, its prospects and employability in an interactive and communicative question answer session. For a better understanding, alumni of AIT also shared their experience as AIT graduates.

8. 26TH MAY 2014 WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section & IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized a Technical SeminarNumber of Attendees: 80

A Technical Seminar was organized jointly by IEEE AIUB Student Branch and WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section. Two highly esteemed speakers, Prof Sankar Kumar Pal, Fellow IEEE distinguished Scientist, Former Director of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and Dr. Celia Shannaz, Chair, WIE affinity group presented talks which aimed to provide

students with knowledge beyond their regular coursework and inspire them in the field of research. Honorable Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain initiated the seminar with a few words. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, the first speaker then gave a talk on the research paper entitled “Speech Enhancement Based on Noise–Compensated Phase Spectrum”. Prof. Sankar K. Pal then presented an overview on “Soft Computing, Machine Intelligence and Granular Data Mining”. Being the founder of the Machine Intelligence Unit and the Centre for Soft Computing Research at the Indian Statistical Unit, he has an international reputation on the subject matter.

9. 26TH MAY 2014 Technical Seminar on “Electric Fire Hazard at Industry”Number of Attendees: 120

A Technical Seminar named ‘Fire Hazard at Industry’ was organized by IEEE AIUB Student Branch. The rationale of the seminar was to introduce the idea of the purpose of hazards and new methods of technologies to prevent it at industries, by a revered speaker, Dr. Md. Raju Ahmed, Associate Professor EEE department DUET, Gazipur. Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering presented his speech by thanking the IEEE AIUB Student Branch for organizing such a helpful seminar for the students. Prof. Dr. Md. Raju Ahmed then presented his speech starting with the basic concepts of fire hazards, types of fault, causes of short circuit and insulation break down. Being a specialist on power electronics and power system field, he advised possible solutions of lightning, potential effects, corrosion and moisture.

10.Workshop on Microcontroller & Basics of Robotics Presented by IEEE AIUB Student Branch

Number of Attendees: 120

IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized a 4 day long workshop on “Microcontroller & Basics of Robotics” on 5th June, 8th June, 12th June and 3rd July 2014. The detailed event covered both the basic and advance level of topics in order to facilitate the creativity of participants, especially 3rd and final year students in building enriched projects. The workshop was conducted by MD. Mahmud Yusuf, EMBEDDED SYSTEM ENGINEER (R&D), SinePulse GmbH and Kazi Muhammad Jameel, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. Basic input output operations, analog to digital converters (ADC) and interruption, Timer & Counter, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and its operations, UART, SPI and 12C were discussed. Different types of motor controllers such as DC, stepper and servomotor were discussed and an introduction to robotics and the use of sensors in robotics was presented. Simple microcontroller based circuits were demonstrated. Certificates were distributed among all participants by the instructors.

11.IEEE AIUB Student Branch & WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section presented a Workshop on “Circuit Simulation and PCB Design Using Proteus”

Number of Attendees: 80

On 11th June 2014, “Workshop on Circuit Simulation and PCB Design Using Proteus” was organized by IEEE AIUB Student Branch in collaboration with Women In Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section. The workshop aimed to educate mainly sophomore as well as interested students about the use of the software Proteus in PCB design and simulation. Before commencing the workshop, some information was shared about the activities of WIE such as to provide the attendees with a better understanding of WIE’s objectives and purpose. Two instructors from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) who

were members of the “BUET Lunabotics Team 2013” in NASA’s 4thannual Lunabotics Mining Competition, Mr. M A Awal and Mr. Parvez Ahmed began the workshop. The sample circuit was them simulated step by step using Proteus so that students could simultaneously implement the circuit on their own. A sample PCB circuit was also displayed for students to physically handle and examine. All attendees were also presented with certificates.

12. 7TH JULY 2014 Technical Talk on “Simple Microwave Technique of Measuring 2-Phase Contents of a Petroleum Carrying Pipeline”Number of Attendees: 100

A technical talk on “Simple Microwave Technique of Measuring 2-Phase Contents of a Petroleum Carrying Pipeline” was presented by IEEE AIUB Student Branch. The seminar aimed to discuss the design of a simple microwave sensor used to determine contents flowing through a petroleum carrying pipeline. The event was conducted by keynote speaker Dr. Sheikh Sharif Iqbal who is a Senior Member of IEEE and an Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering in King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The respected guest speaker presented an introduction to the of use of microwave in detecting contents of pipelines and discussed the basic design for obtaining best results including antennae design and placement, modifications to simulated results and adjustments made in practical implementations.

13.Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT) hosted by IEEE AIUB Student BranchNumber of Attendees: 70

IEEE AIUB Student Branch hosted the Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT) on the 24th of July 2014 in AIUB Campus 2. The aim of the examination was to assess the abilities of the test takers as a critical thinker across a variety of competencies and then enable them to showcase their strengths in the corporate world. The BAT is a global, standardized online exam developed in collaboration with financial professionals, recruiters, and academics.

14. 25th SEPTEMBER 2014: GENERAL MEETING Number of Attendees: 80

IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized a General Meeting for all members to discuss about past and upcoming events and gather feedback on how members can be further benefitted. Benefits of the student membership and how the members can utilize their IEEE accounts was demonstrated. An effective presentation summing up the highlights of the year including seminars, workshops and tours organized throughout the year as well as upcoming probable events planned for the welfare of the student members was presented. Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Assistant professor, Department of Engineering and Mentor of IEEE AIUB Student Branch, motivated the members and informed them about other activities of the branch and expressed anticipation for support from the members.

IEEE AIUB Student Branch celebrated IEEE DAY 2014 on the 1st of October through daylong festivities with the official theme of “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. The event officially began with a cake cutting session in presence of faculty members, guests and participating student members. In the starting session, Dr. Farseem Mannan Mohammedy, Associate Professor, BUET conducted a seminar on “Nanotechnology” in a highly interactive session where he enticed the interest of students and inspired them in this promising field. Thesis presentations were followed by Lecturers of Faculty of Engineering and technical talks from Assistant Professors of the Faculty of Engineering. A video presentation on IEEE AIUB Student Branch summed up the achievements and activities of the branch throughout the year. The daylong event also consisted of quiz contests and gaming contests. Winners of the contests were awarded and all attendees were presented with certificates in appreciation of their active participation. Faculty members and guest speakers were presented with small tokens of appreciation in acknowledgement of their contribution.

16.IEEE AIUB Student Branch Organizing Social Work for Water Purifier Installation for the Students of Governmental Primary SchoolNumber of Attendees: 50

On the 25th October and 8th November, IEEE AIUB Student Branch conducted a social event in Amtoli Staff Welfare of Government Primary Schools (G.P.S) in Mohakhali for installing water purifiers for the students to access fresh drinking water. It also included basic knowledge sharing of the engineering field for motivating young minds through practical and theoretical implementations in classrooms. The event was lead by a team of 15 dedicated student members from the branch, supervised by the Mentor and the Advisor of IEEE AIUB Student Branch. More than 500 primary school students were benefitted by this.

17.Seminar on ‘Renewable Energy Scenario in Bangladesh & Activities of Grameen Shakti’Number of Attendees: 100

A seminar ‘Renewable Energy Scenario in Bangladesh & Activities of Grameen Shakti’, organized by IEEE AIUB student branch, was held on 30th November 2014 in order to inspire a desire to work in the field of renewable energy. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean Faculty of Engineering initiated the seminar with his kind words of appreciation. Md. Asaduzzaman Shoeb, Assisstant Proffessor conducted the seminar by introducing the topic and the guest speaker Md.Mahmodul Hasan, Manager of Grammen Shakti. The speaker then presented the introductory speech with visual representation about the journey of Grammen Shakti, which is now the largest and smartest rural based renewable energies companies in the world .He discussed the need of solar home system which they are providing in remote rural. He encouraged students to work in this field.
