IAPS is the first and only institute in India with a decade
long history of existence with full comprehensive staff,
infrastructure, already availed the central assistance and
importantly whose curriculum pattern is being followed at
various state level institutes including BHU, Lovely,
Kannur, BIPS and Himachal Pradesh. The alumni of this
institute are well placed at good posts in different
organizations and pharmacies throughout in India. Being
the pioneer and only such Ayurved pharmacy college in
Gujarat, IAPS has turn out to be a deserving organization to
be upgraded in the form of proposed NIPER like institute of
AYUSH sector.
For almost past two years, trials were being made to rename the institute and finally by the arduous
efforts of Dr. K. Nisteshwar & Dr. G.D. Gohil & the current principal of IIAPS Dr. Joban Modha, and
with indispensable support of Vd. Shree Rajesh Kotecha, Vice – chancellor, Gujarat Ayurved University,
the decision was taken on 28th Nov., 2013 in the 24th SFI GB to rename the institute to “Indian Institute
of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences” which is definitely a highlight moment in the history and future
of this institute.

Phytochemical evaluation of the wild and cultivated varieties of Eranda Mula (Roots of Ricinus communis
Linn.). Conclusion: Both cultivated and wild varieties have a chemical similarity except higher
percentage of alkaloid in cultivated than wild variety. HPTLC finger printing shows similarities in both
the varieties. Heavy metals were within prescribed limit in both the varieties. Krunal A Doshi,

A. Near-infrared
spectroscopy Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a spectroscopic method that uses the near-infrared region
of the electromagnetic spectrum (from about 800 nm to 2500 nm). Near-infrared spectroscopy
is based on molecular overtone and combination vibrations. The discovery of near-infrared
energy is ascribed to William Herschel in the 19th century, but the first industrial application
began in the 1950s.One advantage of the technique is that NIR can typically penetrate much
farther into a sample than mid infrared radiation. Near-infrared spectroscopy is, therefore, not
a particularly sensitive technique, but it can be very useful in probing bulk material with little
or no sample preparation.
Typical applications include pharmaceutical, medical diagnostics (including blood sugar and
pulse oximetry), food and agrochemical quality control, and combustion research, as well as
research in functional neuroimaging, sports medicine & science, elite sports training,
astronomy, ergonomics, rehabilitation, neonatal research, brain computer interface, urology
(bladder contraction) and neurology (neurovascular coupling).
B. X- ray fluorescence gun
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is the emission of characteristic "secondary" (or fluorescent) X-rays
from a material that has been excited by bombarding with high-energy X-rays or gamma rays.
The phenomenon is widely used for elemental analysis and chemical analysis, particularly in
the investigation of metals, glass, ceramics and building materials, and for research in
geochemistry, forensic science and archaeology.
