No. Food scraps can go straight into your kitchen caddy or FOGO bin. You can rinse the kitchen caddy out after washing up the dishes or wrap food scraps in newspaper which is totally acceptable as well.
You can even make an origami liner which would be a great project for the kids! For instructions on alternative options and more information on compostable liners, visit www.melvillecity.com.au/kitchencaddy
No. The compostable liners are designed for your kitchen caddy and for food scraps only. Pet poo and kitty litter can go straight into your FOGO bin or you can buy compostable pet poo bags from:
• Woolworths, Coles, Bunnings and Petbarn or check your local pet store; or
• Order online from Compost-A-Pak, Cardia Bioproducts or Biobag World as examples
Do I have to use compostable liners?
Can I use my compostable liners for dog and cat poo?
Alternatively, you can set up a pet poo composter at home such as the EnsoPet or Bokashi systems.

Compostable Liner & Token Information
COMPOSTABLE LINER & TOKEN INFORMATION
Why use a token system and how does it work?A token system was introduced to ensure we can maintain supply and equitable distribution of liners to all residents.
Each token can be exchanged for one pack of 75 liners from either the City of Melville Civic Centre, Operations Centre, Blue Gum Community Centre or from any of the City libraries.
Why can I only use one token per visit? We are unable to store the volume of liners required to meet this extra demand as the liners have a limited shelf life so they cannot be stored for long periods. Please store your liners in a cool dry spot away from heat and sunlight so they will last longer.
How many compostable liners should I be using in a week?Three liners per week is the ideal usage which equates to one pack of 75 liners lasting six months until you need to redeem your next token. Three packs of 75 liners are more than a year’s supply so once your allocation of liners runs out, you will need to purchase your own.
Where can I buy my own compostable liners?Liners can be purchased from:
• Woolworths, Coles, FoodWorks or Bunnings
Or ordered online from:
• Cardia Bioproducts www.cardiabioproducts.com
• Compost-A-Pak www.compostapak.com.au
• BioBag World www.biobagworld.com.au
Always use compostable liners as they 100% breakdown leaving no waste and are made from renewable resources. Biodegradable and plastic bags breakdown into micro plastics which are harmful to all living things, pollute the environment and contaminate the FOGO compost.
To make sure you get the right ones, just look for these two logos below and for the certified Australian Standard numbers on them: AS4736 & AS5810
