Freedom Comes Only From Divine Revelation

Galatians 1:11-24

Galatians 1:11-12

I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

I. Divine Revelation Comes Not From Man

(1:11-12)

Religion often has two effects on people.

1. People can easily become proud. Because of their "good" deeds they become proud and despise others to don't perform as well as they do.

2. People despair. They think they didn't do enough. They despair because they "try to be good" but constantly fall short.

A. Paul’s Life Before Christ (1:13-14)

“For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.I was advancing

in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous

for the traditions of my fathers.”

Believers (13-17) A. Paul’s Life Before Christ (1:13-14) B. Paul’s Meets Christ (1:15-16)“But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man,”

Romans 5:6-10 “You see, at just the right time, when we

were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”

Believers (13-17) A. Paul’s Life Before Christ (1:13-14) B. Paul’s Meets Christ (1:15-16) C. Paul’s Life After Meeting Christ (1:16-17)

“I did not consult any man, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.”

III. Divine Revelation Will Unite Believers (v. 18-24).

“Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days. I saw none of the other apostles-- only James, the Lord's brother. I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. Later I went to Syria and Cilicia. I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.“ And they praised God because of me.”
