Advocates for Upstate has servedUpstate Medical University for morethan 100 years, working to enhance thequality of patient and family care andcommunity health and to advanceknowledge in the fields of healthcare.We serve Upstate’s Downtown andCommunity campuses and Upstate’soutpatient locations.

HELPING UPSTATE GROWAdvocates for Upstate has donated $300,000 tohelp realize the Upstate Golisano Children’sHospital and the Upstate Cancer Center.

Our Mystery, Malt and Merlot fundraisersalone have raised more than $430,000 tobenefit Upstate departments and programs,including the Adolescent Psychiatry Unit, ClarkBurn Center, the Upstate EMS Programs, FamilyBirth Center Postpartum Renovation Project,Upstate New York Poison Center andDepartment of Neurology, to name a few.

WHO WE AREThe Advocates for Upstate Medical Universitymeets healthcare and education needs—whether it is to fund the purchase of a teachingdoll to help a child understand their medicaltreatment or a medical device for adults tocontrol their pain, to award scholarships, or tosponsor blood drives. Our fundraising, serviceprojects, and grant and scholarship programstranslate into a better quality of life for all whoare touched by Upstate Medical University andUpstate University Hospital Downtown andCommunity campuses.

GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS Since 2000, we have awarded nearly $3 millionin grants to benefit patient care, patienteducation and scholarships. Advocates YouthScholarships are awarded to junior and teenvolunteers at Upstate. The Nellie HurleyScholarships are awarded to Upstate employeesand adult volunteers to pursue studies in healthfields at an accredited institution.

OUR PARTNERS Our grant and scholarship programs aresupported by our contract partners, includingTeleHealth (patient television service) andselect point-of-purchase locations acrossUpstate’s campuses. Look for our signs atparticipating vendor sites. Every purchase youmake benefits Advocates for Upstate, and inturn, patients and staff.

SERVICE AND OUTREACHOur volunteer members create and participate inservice projects that offer a personal touch tohealthcare, such as:

• helping Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospitalwith its holiday gift program

• participating in hospital gardeningbeautification projects

• sponsoring and volunteering at blood drives

• creating special events on patient units

These are but a few of our many outreach activities.

We can use your talent—whatever it may be— andyour time—however much you can give! Make adifference in the lives of others and enjoy ourmember social events throughout the year!
