KOHS DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
COURSES (grades 11 & 12)
Studies in Language and Literature: English HL
Language Acquisition: French SL/HL, Spanish SL/HL, German SL/HL
Individuals & Societies: History of the Americas HL
Theory of Knowledge
Sciences: Biology SL/HL, Chemistry SL/HL, Physics SL/HL and Computer Science SL/HL
Mathematics: Math Applications SL/HL, OR Math Analysis SL/HL
Fine Arts and Electives: Dance, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts OR a second course from groups 2-5
The TOK course is designed to encourage
each student to reflect on the nature of
knowledge by critically examining different
ways of knowing (perception, emotion,
language and reason) and different kinds of
knowledge (scientific, artistic, mathematical,
and historical).
This required course begins
second semester of the 11th
grade and concludes first
semester of the 12th grade.
4,000-word essay on a topic of the student’s
choice incorporating documented research
Students select a topic, faculty advisor, and initiate
their research second semester of the junior year.
They have the summer and first semester of the
senior year to complete the writing and revising
process. Students receive assistance during TOK
with deadlines for writing the essay.
Each senior class selects a global service project.

Klein Oak’s Pre-International
Preparatory Program
We encourage 8th grade
students to apply for the IB
Diploma Programme and
complete our Pre-IP courses in
the 9th and 10th grades. At the
end of 10th grade, students will
choose to transition into IB or
exit the program.
Importance of Pre-IP Courses
• Go beyond the TEKS in depth and complexity
• Are appropriately rigorous to prepare students to be successful in IB courses and the state mandated tests
• Are part of a vertically-aligned series of courses that ends with an authorized IB course

HOW DO I APPLY?
APPLICATION PROCESS 1. Collect the basic background information. You will enter all of the information on the
digital application.
2. There is a student portion and parent portion to the application.
3. Type a 250-word response in the space provided on the application to the following
topic: How have global events of the past year demonstrated the need for an
education with an emphasis on international understanding?
4. Submit your application by January 10, 2020.
5. Once your application is submitted, share the link provided on the application with
teachers you will use as references. Teachers must complete the reference by the
application deadline, January 10, 2020.
6. Interviews will be scheduled January 22-31, 2020. Students will be notified
approximately one week prior to the interview date.
7. Klein Oak IB Coordinator will request a copy of your 8th grade semester 1 report
card mid-January. Final decisions will be mailed by February 14, 2020.

Students will meet the Klein Oak bus at their zoned high
school campus.
