The Science Club is filled with experiences that inspire wonder, boost creativity, enhance problem-solving skills and make learning fun. Our science club gives the opportunity to our students to become role models, learn life skills and induces critical thinking and scientific temperament. The Science Club aims to offer interactive science content in order to develop new scientists of tomorrow. If you want to participate, go find Mr Kevin Ortegon to join.

Jeff Kinney

Is an online game developer, designer, the creator of Poptropica.com, and the #1 New York Times best-selling author and illustrator of the wildly popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Born in Maryland in the 1970s, Jeff spent his childhood in the Washington, D.C., area and moved to New England in 1995. As a young reader, Jeff was inspired by the books of Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Piers Anthony, and J.R.R. Tolkien.Jeff attended the University of Maryland in the early 1990s. It was there that he ran a comic strip called “lgdoof” in the campus newspaper and knew that he wanted to be become a newspaper strip cartoonist.

Although Jeff started writing down ideas for Diary of a Wimpy Kid in 1998, it wasn’t until the spring of 2007 that his book was published — and quickly became a New York Times bestseller, eventually reaching the number one spot. In 2010, Diary of a Wimpy Kid was made into a movie starring Zach Gordon as Greg Heffley.

In 2009, Jeff was named one of the 20 Artists & Entertainers in The TIME 100, the magazine’s list of The World’s Most Influential people.Jeff lives Plainville, Massachusetts with his wife and their two sons. “Kinney has a gift for believable preteen dialogue and narration, and the illustrations serve as a hilarious counterpoint to Greg’s often deadpan voice.” — Publishers Weekly, starred Review, on Diary of a Wimpy Kid “The real and deeper appeal of Greg;s story is the unapologetic honesty of his adolescence; he comes across as a real kid, and his story is one that will appeal to all those real kids who feel just like him.”

Enjoy a wide range of fun electricity facts for kids. Electricity plays an important role in everyday life; learn more about static electricity, electric eels, circuits, lightning, electric shock and more.

Two positive charges repel each other, as do two negative charges. Opposite charges on the other hand attract each other.

When an electric charge builds up on the surface of an object it creates static electricity. You have probably experienced static electricity in the form of a small electric shock, which is what happens when the electric charge is quickly neutralized by an opposite charge.

Electricity plays a role in the way your heart beats. Muscle cells in the heart are contracted by electricity going through the heart. Electrocardiogram (ECG) machines used in hospitals measure the electricity going through the heart, when the person is healthy it usually shows a line moving across a screen with regular spikes as the heart beats.

Back in the 1880’s there was even a war of currents between Thomas Edison (who invented DC) and Nikola Tesla (who invented AC). Both wanted their system to be used with AC winning out due to the fact that it is safer and can be used over longer distances. This year ILP has started an English Science Club in the afternoons, where we will be exploring these facts amongst others in a fun and enjoyable way.

For those budding scientists out there visit this wonderful resource and challenge teacher Kevin in his Science Club and if you would like to enroll let Mr Carlos know.
