5 PRONUNCIATION TIPS

Ahora es el momento de mejorar la pronunciación. Escucha atentamente las explicaciones del DVD.

Si bien la manera en que se deletrean las palabras en inglés no es, por lo general, una buena guía para la pronunciación, ocurren, a veces, ciertos patrones de pronunciación que se repiten con algunas palabras. En esta unidad, veremos cómo cambia la pronunciación de algunas palabras simi-lares cuando se agrega la letra “e” al fi nal.

En el primer caso, el sonido /æ/ de la vocal en la palabra /tæp/ (tap), por ejemplo, cambia al diptongo /ei/ cuando se le agrega la letra “e” al fi nal, y la nueva palabra se pronuncia /téip/ (tape).

En el segundo caso, el sonido /i/ de la vocal en la palabra /kit/ (kit), por ejemplo, cambia al diptongo /ai/ cuando se le agrega la letra “e” al fi nal y la nueva palabra se pronuncia /káit/ (kite).

En el último caso, el sonido /a:/ de la vocal en la palabra /ha:p/ (hop), por ejemplo, cambia al diptongo /ou/ cuando se le agrega la letra “e” al fi nal y la nueva palabra se pronuncia /jóup/ (hope).
