MASS TIMES

ST IGNATIUS Toowong: Weekdays 5.30pm every afternoon; Saturday 9.00am & 6.00pm (Vigil); Sunday 7.00am & 5.00pm.

Reconciliation: Saturday after 9.00am Mass and from 5.15pm to 5.45pm, or by appointment. HOLY SPIRIT Auchenflower: Weekdays 9.00am Monday, Wednesday & Friday; Sunday 8.30am.

John wrote this gospel in the light of the

resurrection: Jesus is Lord from beginning to end.

This passage from John is rich in associations. It

harks back to the call of the first disciples, when

Philip urges Nathaniel to “come and see” Jesus. The voice from

heaven brings to mind God’s self-revelations in the Old Testament,

as well as the synoptics’ stories of Jesus’ baptism and

transfiguration. And as was the case the last Sunday, Jesus’

reference to being “lifted up from the earth” echoes the story of the

bronze serpent.

Other words and phrases are packed with meaning: Jesus’ “hour”

encapsulates the whole mystery of his death and exaltation, and the

buried grain of wheat that yields a rich harvest is another dense

metaphor for the same mystery. The climax of the reading is Jesus’

declaration that when he is lifted up he will draw all people to

himself.

OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

• If lawyers are disbarred and clergyman are defrocked,

doesn’t it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted,

cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked,

dry cleaners depressed and pigs are disgruntled?

• Why is it that if someone tells you that there are 1 billion stars in

the universe you will believe them, but if they tell you a wall has wet

paint you will have to touch it to be sure?

• If people from Poland are called “Poles”, why aren’t people from

Holland called “Holes”?
