I have been watching you for a long time from my bedroom window, ever since I was a child, and you were so young that you bloomed for the first time. Every spring I admire your ballroom dress, I lay my eyes on your emerald crown and I pick up your fruit. In the autumn I cry when I see you bare or shaking in the cold. During the winter I wait for the snow to come just to see you becoming a huge cotton candy. Meanwhile you grew as I did, and became strong and self-assured. You are like this tree, mom told me one day, because the nature created you, you get your energy from the ground and people protect you. I would like to be that tree, I replied without much confidence. Each person is a tree in their own way: they are born, grow up and go to eternity. What is important is that they grow beautifully and leave a trace of their existence, mom explained. I am very happy and therefore I decided to write to you: to tell you how much we are alike. But I don’t know if you are going to read my lines, because you didn’t go to school and don’t know to read. I regret much this is what makes us different. DEAR TREE,

One sunny summer day, grandma told me we were going some

place she had never seen for about forty years. On the road I was really anxious to see the magnificent place

calling my grandma. And so we arrived in some forsaken village. It looked quiet, surrounded by hills and thick forests on three sides.

In this village there used to be a young teacher who came one spring to plant more locus trees with her students.

The children were digging the deep pits where they put the small trees and wet them, hoping that one day there would be a thick forest. The remaining tree was too small and didn’t look at all like the others. Everyone wondered if it was to be planted too.

”It would be a shame not to give it chance!” said a little girl. There it was, a little further from the locus forest, it grew so big!

It was a lucky tree! I added. Has the teacher ever had the chance to see it? Fortunately, yes. She is right here, next to you! Then I saw a few tears falling down my grandma’s face.

MY STORY

I am the willow: guardian of the lake, with an important mission, to protect the park.

My life has changed very much since I met many children who became my playing partners, my grandparents telling their grandchildren wonderful stories from their childhood, the little girls braiding their coronets, the fathers teaching their children and the mothers humming nice songs with their warm, gentle voice.

I always liked watching the water waves and enjoyed each rain with cold drops cooling my branches.

I confess I don’t like the autumn because it is cold, the park is deserted and I feel alone; the leaves dry and fall of one by one, the little birds which sang to me all summer, are leaving me and I am looking forward to the spring and coming back to life.- The autumn is sometimes so sad, until…- What a bad weather! I whispered.- I don’t like it either! There was a clear voice.

I looked around and saw a little girl telling me that she was 12, her name was Alexia and after a little exchange of words I realized she understood perfectly what I felt. Now I understood what the proverb wanted to say: “The real friendship is like the moon. We don’t see it daily but we always know it is close.”

SOUL TREE…

If I were a tree, I would be a fantasy tree, as I feel it is the only one describing me.I would definitely have sapphire and diamond leaves, and my trunk would be covered in star dust and sun rays. With such glittering earrings pending on the trees, I couldn’t give people fruit like apple trees or cherry trees or pear trees could, but I could help them be better and happier. To each sad person coming to me, I would talk like a friend and give a diamond or sapphire as source of light; if I saw at sunset any worried sparrow, I would gather 4 diamonds, 3 sapphires and 2 emeralds, as haven; if a squirrel got lost in the dark forest, I would give it shelter. If unstoppable rain came I would raise my branches to the sky and I would caress the clouds with my reflexion and they would stop crying because they also need comfort sometimes.I think every tree is unique in its own way. I would have the fresh sweet magnolia fragrance or the persistence of the oak but I would be the tree of life, of hope, of joy, of peace and delicacy, but above all I would still be the soul tree.

THE MIRROR STORY

I grew up together with the forest. One day in the spring of life, I stood still, my sharp senses and tried to live the forest life…

The trees were wonderful, like sentinels of the exuberating vegetation.

It didn’t take long to recognize myself in the young great oak from the middle of the creepers and other plants fighting for light. It penetrated the vegetal thickness as I fought in the little life fights. Two small but fierce fighters, we both fought for the light.

Its young branches waved in the wind as my lithe body in a classic Tchaikovsky ballet.

The sun caressed its leaves and my hair. The rustling of the raw leaves was like the stream of

thoughts and dreams from my innocent turmoil. We mirrored in the blue sky and our beauty took your breath

away!

I AM… a SOULI am a tree, not an usual one, as I feel everything going on

around me, I have a soul.In the winter I am all alone, my branches are sad and I cry in

the winter’s crystal soul, when I no longer enjoy my leaves, flowers or fruit.

But in spring, when my crown almost reaches the sky in a subtle movement of the emerald mirror, I am happy to receive my tenants: delicate birds, buds and flowers and green leaves.

The sun caresses my body, my soul is warm and happy, the floral scent gets me drunk, and everything is wonderful.

In the summer I become a loving and careful father, watching my wondering children, the fruit.

The hot solar blow melts me but the bird chirping wakes me up.

One hand touches the entire paradise and the other the delicate smooth cover of the earth. In the autumn I am sad and my tears are rolling down my old body tormented by rain and cold.

My branches are down touching the ground, obeying to the Autumn Queen and begging for mercy. And I fell all of it as I live and above all I have a soul!
