One issue for discussion at the Club Forum on Monday, 1 December, will be “scatter”

meetings. These are meetings that members attend in other clubs, in lieu of their own.

I was reminded of the value in knowing what other Clubs are doing when I recently at-

tended a Group 3 (Stirling, Blakiston, Mt. Barker, Murray Bridge, Mobilong, Onkaparinga,

Tailem Bend) Presidents’ meeting, chaired by Assist Governor, Group 3, Sue Piggott.

Murray Bridge runs an annual business dinner in conjunction with Regional Development

Australia Murraylands & Riverland – excellent for profile-raising and potential members.

We could explore doing something similar with our RDA

Blakiston runs an annual Fathers’ Day Breakfast, a good fundraiser

Mobilong has a Friends of Rotary scheme, in which individuals, or firms, pay $250 per

year. These are people who identify with the ideals of Rotary but who for various reasons

are unable to join the organisation formally

Tailem Bend advertises at a certain time every year inviting community groups to apply for

minor grants – this means that it is not responding to ad hoc requests throughout the year

and is able to prioritise applications.

It strikes me that “Scatter” meetings” are also potentially useful in ensuring that we are not

“re-inventing the wheel”.

For those who couldn't understand the German, here is a translation of what I said:

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen.

This evening we have a special guest, Alex Ullmer from the Rotary Club of Gernesheim-

South. Alex is the father-in-law of Marcus from Red Cacao.

Firstly I should like to excuse my poor German. I learnt it at school but that was a very

long time ago.

Alex, it gives me great pleasure to bid you a hearty welcome to our Club.

Our programme this evening is a little unusual in that we have a comedian to entertain us

which might make it a little difficult for you to understand. I am sorry, but please, please

don't ask me to translate his jokes!

Alex, once again, welcome to our club and now our President Robert would, with pleasure,

like to present you with our Club Pennant.

This is a highly edited version of what I actually said as I have to leave out all the remarks

and insults regarding various members of our club, knowing they probably wouldn't

understand!

Neil

24th November

Felix Cabrera Junior & Jase Berry

will outline their recent experience

at RYLA

Well it’s the final week of Movember and this year looks to be my most successful yet. I have

been doing Movember for the last 8 years and to date this year have raised in excess $640 with

my work team raising almost $6000 for 2014. This of course could not have been done without

the generous support of Rotarians and in particular: John Stoddard, Owen Bevan, Dick Wilson

and Rob Koehne. With just over a week to go it is not to late to donate, either online

http://mobro.co/judgey or hand some $$ to me and I’ll donate it in your name.

Think of me as I try to get into Bali next week.

The Four-Way Test asks the following

questions of the things we think, say or do:

Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Laughter is the Best Medicine

PECANS IN THE CEMETERY On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and be-gan dividing the nuts. 'One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me,' said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, 'One for you, one for me, one for you, One for me...' He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. 'Come here quick,' said the boy, 'you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!' The man said, 'Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk.' When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, 'One for you, one for me. One for you, One for me.' The old man whispered, 'Boy, you've been telling' me the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord... Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last they heard, 'One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done.... They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile before the kid on the bike passed him.
