Message from Fr. Pergjini-Last Sunday before the final blessing at the 9:15am Holy Mass, our extraordinary

Eucharistic minister, Rudi who faithfully goes every Sunday to bring Holy Communion to one of our nursing homes, showed me a consecrated host found on the floor near in the statute of the blessed mother. I was very disturbed seeing the host in that condition. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened in our parish. Another time we did find the host on one of our benches outside the church. Before the final blessing, I made an announcement explaining what happened. I felt the concern of others too and the love for the Eucharist during my brief announcement. Our well-known Grotto attracts many people from everywhere. I am sure a majority are Catholics who visit our beautiful Grotto. Many of them, especially on Sundays, do come and attend Holy Mass also. We are thankful for their visit and welcome them with open hearts. On the other hand, we do have people who are not Catholics or do not practice and are not prepared to receive Holy Communion. The non Catholic visitors do not know the Catholic discipline and requirements on who can receive it and how to receive it. Frequently, I have seen adult and young people who come for the first time approaching the altar and they do not know how to receive Holy Communion. When I have this experience, I briefly explain to them that I can give a blessing instead because they are not ready to receive the Holy Communion. And, I suggest to them to see me after mass if they are willing to know more about our Catholic faith. Most of them understand and they are very kind and humble and happy to receive a blessing. Some of them do wait after mass is over to discuss it. Others, it is sad to say, do not show any interest because their visit is only to go to the Grotto and get the water and light a candle. And this fine also to pray to Our Blessed Mother. As I think what happen last Sunday, I firmly believe that we must be vigilant, not only we as clergy and ushers, but every one of us faithful Catholics who attend Holy Mass. If we see something that has to do with what is a most sacred treasure for us as Catholics, the real presence of Christ, body, blood, soul and divinity veiled in the consecrated host under the appearance of bread, we should speak out to the person who probably is holding the host and unwilling to consume it. Anyone who is aware of the redeeming value of the Eucharist should never be silent and walk away without addressing this serious issue. We all should know that even a small particle falling on the floor is still the body of Christ and should never be neglected. Many times I have experienced myself that people have dropped the host on the floor because they do not properly hold their hands and carefully receive Holy Communion in their mouth. Recently, thanks to one of our faithful benefactors who donated the altar rail, there are many of our faithful people who receive holy communion kneeling. They do not kneel before the priest or deacon, but they do kneel before Christ who is present in that Holy Host. It is inspiring to see that there are many of our faithful who kneel receiving Holy Communion giving the example to others, especially to the young, who desperately need to see reverence and the humble gesture of receiving the Real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. If we carefully read the gospels there are many occasions that those who were in desperate need for healing and help did kneel and prostrated themselves before Christ. If we do not teach and practice how to worship and how to respond with our bodily gestures during the holy sacrifice of the Mass, the presence of the divine mystery would be absent and we would be not touched in our souls, minds and hearts. In this Sunday’s Gospel of Saint Mathew, Christ asked his disciples: “But you who do you say that I am?” Thanks to the Almighty Father who revealed to Saint Peter to make that powerful statement: “you are Christ, the son of the living God." And we must believe, that from the Altar we receive the presence of the Son of the Living God. Amen! Do you and I believe that in that Holy Host, is the real presence of body, blood, soul, and divinity of the son of the living God? Do we show that reverence and love with our bodily gesture while receiving Christ, our Savior? Are you and I are prepared by using the Sacrament of confession in order to receive in a state of grace the presence of the Son of the Living God? I am sure if we honestly think, pray and seriously answer these questions we will approach more devoutly and reverently the sacred species and not allow anyone to desecrate what we believe is Holy and Divine presence.

Our own Msgr. Becker will be having surgery on Friday, September 1, 2017. He is asking for and is most

grateful if you can remember him in your prayers. Prayer before Surgery

O merciful Father in heaven, we ask You to be with Msgr. Becker while he is in surgery. Bless the surgeon with the skill and knowledge needed to do his work and safely bring Msgr. Becker through this operation. O gracious Father, bring healing to Msgr. Becker and bless him with the best care possible as he recovers. Continue to bless him with your tender care. Grant him patience during his recuperation, help him grow in strength each day and bring him to full recovery quickly. Amen.
