Thank You!
Dear Friends,I am so glad this year's event is finally here. I think it might be the best one yet. Being back in a hotel environment is the rightchoice for us all. It's so much more comfortable than the cavernous convention center. With our new location offering so manyrooms, with such versatility and flexibility, it allows us the ability to include several special interest studios as well as 3 dedicat-ed Market rooms. The feedback we've had from you regarding the creative classes is greatly appreciated. We heard your requestsand as evidenced by the choice of classes this year, we realize your growing interest in the creative arts.
We're thankful to Brooklyn Tweed who brought John Crane's Sheep Breed Exhibition all the way from Portland, Oregon in theFiber Studio. Be sure to stop in and see the 75+ breeds on display.
We're pleased to also be able to feature the Creative Open Studio, in a dedicated sewing room, sponsored by Janome and AmyBaughman Sew & Quilt in Cranberry, PA.with make and take activities. Having a chance to sit and play on several models ofsewing machines and try out the many features in a no pressure, relaxed environment is a wonderful opportunity.
Fabrics from Around the World will be one of the exhibitions, graciously lent by the 3 Rivers Quilters Guild, and there will beQuilts on display also.
A 911 Tribute Quilt will be featured. The quilt, titled "Remember Me," made by Carol Mesimer, was made after the 911tragedy. This is the last stop for the quilt before it becomes part of the permanent display at the 911 Memorial and Museum inNew York.
The Maker Space, sponsored by Clover, USA, and Lion Brand Yarn is a space where you can sit and chill out, try your handat a new crafting activity, and sample some fun new yarns in Lion Brand's Yarn Lounge. We have brought back Free Learn toKnit and Crochet Sessions, compliments of Lion Brand. Each participant receives a tote bag with needles, yarn and basicinstructions. Bethany Community Ministry volunteers will host the Knit & Crochet sessions and have a retro jewelry sale as partof their upcoming fundraising efforts.
The Western Pa Girl Scouts will assist with you with a FREE Pgh HandMade Heart Making activity all day Sunday and they'llbe selling cookies!
The Pgh HandMade Hearts initiative, started last year after the tragic shooting at a Squirrel Hill Synagogue, has had a rippleeffect. Many other cities have picked up the heart making initiative. Here in Pittsburgh, we have engaged hundreds of volunteersof all ages and made hearts and distributed over 5500 in the region. I am grateful to everyone who participated in the first yearand encourage you to keep on being kind with these small acts of kindness.
This was a year of transition. We lost our Mother, Irene Kierski. Losing a mother is not easy, but it serves as a reminder of all ofthe truly important and precious things in life. It reminds us that life is indeed short. Make the most of each day and to be thebest person you can be. Celebrate each day! Be selfless, be kind, treat your neighbors the way you would like to be treated, andpass those lessons on to our children.
