MEXICO. LAND OF ENCHA.N'I1rENT (Feature----By Bob Sato)

l4EXI CO, HERE WE COME! We crossed the border after

a rather harrowing experience wi th lIexican border officials. Then came my first picture of the lIexicans--lounging aroWld the streets in faded khakis and the proTerb1al blankets. The girls in general are sloe-eyed and-primitively pretty. THIS WAS MY FIRST ImRE3SION OF l4EXICO .

The country from the border t o the city of Monterray, 160 miles distance, is rugged waste land of lIII.tted rock and sp;lrsel y grown cactus. The weather was "arm, but not extre1l81y hot. As a matter of fact , the weather was gocXl. all the way into Mexico City. In Monterray, I saw my first really beautiful Mexican girl I had heard so much about. In all sincerity, these girls are tm loveliest in the world . I am not going to describe her, but to give you a brief idea, she could win "Home-Coming Queen" at tm University of Hawaii with both hands down.

In the mountains we fown the Indi ans of Mexico. They are short of stature and have a dark copper complexion. They are about as advance as the white man of fifteenth century. Their

-2-

worldly possess ions are a bUrro I a woman and several half-naked children. Uncivilized and il11 terate, they sean happy.

Mexico City--this city has been compared favorably with Paris. Architecturally t't is much more impressive. Some of the buildings are fabulous. One thing they have in connnon are hordes and hordes of beautitu1 girls. And what is most im- ' portant, they are friendly. The city is situated in the midst of the mountains and that could account for the invigorat ing and exhilarating CDndition. I don't know whether I was just plain lucky or subconsciously f arsighted. At any rate, the decision to came to Mexico was t he most intelligent one I ever made.

Politics are forgotten. Money is something foreign. So much for the philosophy.

Luau was the lack of a "Keynote Speaker". No long wiDled speaker to listen to.

No doubt, many members must have made the most of this memorable evening and gone back to see a repeat performance!

Do you members know that as far back as 1943 when we were s till a t the old Nuuanu school site that a joint meeting of the Board of Directors of both clubs, the 442nd and the Club 100 met and voted upon the Q!,lesti on of Merger. CHARM COURSE HIGHLIGHl'S By Janet Kuwaye

"Goo:1 morning, my, charming wife t " This is t M kim of greeting same of the ladies are recei ving since enrolling in the "Charm Course" under Mrs. Dolores Sabalos--which began on the 15th of May.

What's the secret? Well, ladies, it's really many little things combined together that oontribute towards making a cha rming WOJllaIl.

Let's begin from the top of your head. Your hair, for instance. Are you using your hair brush daily for necessary stimulation, circulation, and lustre? Do you shampoo as often as necessary ani use a rinse for added lustre and manageability? Does your hai r style suit your age and personality, and is it one that you can manage?

What is your skin cond i ti on'? Normal, dry, oily, or combination? Regardless of the condition, soap $ould be used on your face and neck only once a day, preferably at night.

Your ma,ke up, of course, plays a big part in the picture you present to others. Being confident that you have the proper make up on puts you at ease. Beauty of the actress,Elizabeth 'raylor is rare, but we can all

and neatly polished? Cuticules a.ttended to?

Then there is the battle of the bulges! Are you attacking them conscientiously? There is not ne ad to be skinny Ell d scrawny or pleasingly plump all your lit!)l You can have the figure you desire by watching your diet ani exercising, and exercising can be fun when you have a goal to attain.

Superfluous hair should be l'enoved from your legs as often as nocessary. Attractive hose (preferably seamless) should be VTorn to all social and business Eillgagements. Shoes should be l:ept brushed am polished and in goed re:pair. The classic opera pump is correct with any outfit (considering 00 lor) ani will never go out of style and is the most flattering to the foot.

The primary rule in dressing is simplicity. It 1s better taste to under dress than ower c.ress. When there is any doubt about a particular item, leave it off. Be sure all your clothea fit well. It is the secret ot the well dressed woman.

Are you conscious of your voice? Do you speak in a tone that is pleasing? You will fiM t.hat more people will stop to listen to what you have to say U you would endeavor to develop Em. alert, discriminating mind Emd a senSitive, sympathetic outlook upon life. I am very sorry, I couldn't attem the May 9th Baker Chapter meeting. I was the best man for my older brother's wedding. .\ week: or two before, I did make known that I couldn't atterrl the meeting. I am very glad to hear that the meeting was a success. (Editor's Note: Bake r , is the re t )

It was a tough job well done. I would say there were around 35 true blue Baker boys sweating away. I wish I could write each name here of those \lho have helped, rut some name s nay be overlooked, so I IlUlBt dispense with that.

As long as we have such l oyal comrades, Baker will be always on top!

00000000 We g re laying it on a bit

1ihick but it seems that when a ' guy says he was with the 100th he invariably gets tapped on 1,he shoulder tar something . To name a few:

Hiroshi (Five Grand) Sakamoto, Commander VFW.

Larry Hirokawa, COllllllUld er DAV.

Yoshio Yanagawa, President , Hilo Baseball league .

Masao Koga, President , Hawai i Ass:> cia t ion ot Sanitarians.

James Maeda , President , Lite Underwriters Association ot Hilo. Which probably explains vdly the Roberts' Rules of Order book was missi~ the library shelf the last time VTe went lookinc fo r it.

Please accord him the courtesies due any friend of Club 100 because, likEI we always speak of someone we ae.mire, "He's there, the guy." We have assured him that the warm spirit of aloha that prevails anong men of the loath for any staunch champion or the outfit is H spontaneous thing with the brotherhocd of Club 100 manbers everywhera. Don't make a liar out of us. Thanks.

00000000 Coming back to Hamada, no,

no, you thought different-- he's not running for public offi ce. It's his way of saying he's switched jobs and wants your kokua if you're scouting around tor a Toyo Pat or a Dodge sedan. Calling himself a representatiTe yet (Q sales represent ati ve that is) he'll let you have the keys to the oar for a dernonstration and promises not to make a Fed-eral case if there's no sale. "TANOMU-ZO", sez he, 'as tho' he was fighting the battle ot Colli allover again.

00000000 Speaking of switching jobs,

it you see Sh1geru Ushijima in Confederate grey don't gape; he's not a fugitiTe from a Pl'A costUllr:l lay. He now works tor Uncle Sam delivering the mail.
