Hydraulic cylinders are used inbuckling saws for cutting the logs tolength. The cutting movement iscontrolled via analog or digitalmotion control cards in conjunctionwith servo solenoid or proportionalvalves. These control valves are characterizedby their high-dynamic performancewith low hysteresis and high responsesensitivity. Due to the use of integralvalve electronics, electric cabling iskept to a minimum. Time consumingre-nulling of the valve is a thing ofthe past.

Digital controller assemblies withfield bus interfaces in conjunctionwith highly dynamic control valvesallow the precise positioning ofactuators and thus optimumthroughput of the log todownstream machining units.

Log processing in the sawmilldemands highly accurate linearpositioning. Band mills, chippingheads, head blocks, gang sawsand line bars all require rapidand accurate positioning.

The positioning process of chippingheads, saw blades and curve sawsplace great demands on thehydraulic components used. Basedon the proven high-response servosolenoid valve, Rexroth now offers anew valve generation with integralaxis controller and field businterface.

The decisive advantages: Via thefield bus the hydraulic axis drive isdirectly integrated into the digitalcontrol structure of the machine.

The axis controller can be easily para-meterized and the command valueflexibly generated by the higher-level control. The diagnosis of actualvalues and status values (valvetemperature, power supply) ishandled via the bus system. Fastererror analysis by means of remotediagnostic systems results in asignificant reduction in downtime.

Quality through precision:Veneer lathes ...High quality veneer can only beproduced with accurate synchro-nization of two hydraulic feedcylinders. The synchronization isperformed with the 2-axis versionof our HACD with synchronizationcontrol. The “ruggedized” servosolenoid valve is mounted directlyonto the linear positioningcylinder.

This design increases load stiffnesswhile simultaneously increasingshock at the control valve. It is herethat Bosch Rexroth offers distinctadvantages: The control valve is a“ruggedized” version of thestandard servo solenoid valve andhas been designed specifically forthis application.
