ElectronicControllerOptions

Electronic Controllers The electronic controllerused for a Fan Drive Systemis called the Two ChannelAmplifier (TCA).

The TCA at the heart of the EH Fan Drive System, is arugged, fully encapsulated digitally programmablecontroller specially designedfor mobile environments.

It is prepared for CANbuscommunications on a vehiclenetwork. Software forcontrolling the EH Fan DriveSystem is loaded in thecontroller memory at thefactory. Control softwareparameters are adjusted via RS 232 hook-up to alaptop computer.

The TCA controller isavailable for both 12 V or 24 V vehicle powersystems. With 5 configurableinputs and 2 Pulse WidthModulated (PWM) outputs, the TCA can interface with a variety of systemcomponents and drive up totwo electro-hydraulic valves.

Two Methods of Control

1. Integrated Fan DriveSystem

Interface the Fan DriveSystem to your enginecontrol module to executethe cooling strategy exactlyas directed by the enginecontrol module.

2. Stand-alone Fan DriveSystem

Define your own coolinglogic using up to twotemperature sensors andtwo digital switch inputs. We will implement thatcontrol through the TCA.

By adding electronics to anEaton® Electro-hydraulic FanDrive System, users cantailor the system to theirneeds. Fan drive controlparameters are adjustedthrough a user-friendlygraphical user interface(GUI).

The GUI walks the designerthrough the definitionprocess with real-timegraphical feedback to clearly indicate the system’sresponse to eachmodification.

System data can also begraphically monitored and

saved to verify actualresults. When the coolinglogic is fully defined, resulting parameters aresaved and used forexact systemduplication for yourproduction application.

Setup Screen

The Setup Screen feature allows the user to define hisown cooling logic by setting in the required parameters.

Monitor Screen

The Monitor Screen allows the user to monitor the system.

Component Screen

The Component Screen gives the user an overview ofthe system and allows the user to click on the compo-nents and enter a description.

Current-controlled SignalTCA

The system cooling strategyis based on one ECM input, two Temperature Inputs and two Digital Inputs. In somecases, the ECM signal is too noisy or too weak tocontrol a hydraulic circuit. The TCA amplifies andconditions the ECM signal to be used on ahydraulic circuit.

A fixed displacement pumpfan drive system is suited fora smaller and simpler coolingsystem. A fixed displacementpump is unable to alter it’sdisplacement to slow the fanspeed with respect to thecooling demand. The excessflow generated by the pumpis returned to the tank, which

leads to generation of heatand energy losses.

Fixed displacement pumpsare best suited for Fan DriveSystems below 10 HP.

This system is similar to theFixed Displacement Pumpsystem. For engines notequipped with an ECM, thecooling strategy is based ona temperature sensor anddigital inputs to the TCA.

A variable displacementpump fan drive system is

suited for larger and morecomplex cooling systems. Avariable displacement pumpreduces the displacement tomatch the flow as per thecooling demand. This featureoffers on-going energysavings and creates lessheating of the hydraulic fluid.

Variable displacementpumps are best suited for Fan Drive Systems above 20 HP.

Electro-hydraulic Steer ByWire (EH-SBW)

EH-SBW is a new technologysteering system for vehicleswhere an electronic sensorreplaces the rotary steeringvalve of a traditional hydraulicsteering system. An electricalsignal, rather than mechanicalor fluid connections, transfersthe steering command fromthe operator’s steering wheelto the steered wheel electro-hydraulic actuator. The Eatonsystem includes a noveltactile feedback device at thesteering wheel that simulatesthe feel of conventionalhydrostatic steering.

Electro-hydraulic WorkCircuits

An electronic remote controljoystick replaces thehydraulic remote control, cables and levers of atraditional work circuitoperator interface. Anelectrical signal, rather than mechanical or fluidconnections, transfers theboom, bucket or implementcommand from theoperator’s joystick to anelectro-hydraulic directionalcontrol valve. Other workcircuit applications includecontrol of auxiliary motors, power take-off clutches, and transmissions.

The Electronic TransmissionAutomotive Control (ETAC)

ETAC system is a hydrostaticpropulsion package ideallysuited for small to mediumsized fork lift trucks, tractorsand utility vehicles. ETACmatches engine power to thevehicle propulsion and workrequirement. The “Maestro”digital, programmablecontroller is integrated withthe throttle system as well asa closed circuit hydraulic pumpand motor. Maestro drives ahigh performance electro-hydraulic interface on thepump and uses a swashplatesensor to provide precise, closed loop control.

Additional Benefits:

• Consistent performance over a wide range of operating temperatures.

• Hydrostatic braking isadjustable through software.

• Inching function maximizesproductivity by allowing theoperator to regulate work circuit pump flow independ-ently of vehicle speed.

• Anti-stall enables use of available engine power byautomatically reducing pumpdisplacement.

• Adjustment of software parameters allows newoperators to operate the vehicle with the same productivity as skilled drivers.

Other electro-hydraulicsystems for steering, work circuit and fandrive applications.

World Class Brands,Products and Systems

Additional Benefits:

• Hydraulic leaks and noiseare reduced.

• Assembly is simplified, providing greater cabdesign flexibility.

• Productivity, safety, andergonomics are allimproved.

• The tailoring of steeringcharacteristics by re-pro-gramming is simplified.

Additional Benefits:

• The work circuit control is more accurate and stable.

• Hydraulic noise and leaksin the cab are reduced.

• Hydraulic connectionsare eliminated or simplified.

• Vehicle energy manage-ment is improved.
