    Write these words on the board:

    Is you in Are she Spain from Madrid

    Students use the words to form di ff erent questions. Write themon the board, for example: Is she from Spain? Is she in Madrid? Are you from Madrid? Are you in Spain?

    Students ask and answer the questions in pairs, responding withshort answers: Yes, I am / No Im not; Yes, he is / No, he isnt;Yes, it is / No, it isnt.

    Students are going to form questions with Is and Are fromprompts.

    Divide the class into Student As and Student Bs. Give Student Asworksheet A and Student Bs worksheet B. Student As and Student Bswork together in groups of four to form as many di ff erentquestions from the words on their worksheet as possible. Onestudent from each group writes the questions the others call out.Set a time limit of ve minutes for this stage.

    A er ve minutes, ask the groups to stop and move their chairsso that they face another four students from the other group.Students A and Students B take turns to ask and answer thequestions they have written. A di ff erent student should ask andanswer each time. For every correct question, the group that asksgets two points; for every correct response, the group that answersgets one point.

    When all the questions have been asked, the group with the mostpoints wins.

    In their groups, students write questions they would like to ask the

    students in another group, e.g. Is Khalid from Saudi Arabia?Is Kiyokos at in the centre of Tokyo? Is Luigi married?
