Dear Parents
This Friday we will celebrate the Feast Day of St Mary
MacKillop.
How did Mary MacKillop manage to do so much? She took responsibility for her younger brothers and sisters when she was only 11 years old. She was a governess and teacher by the time she was 18. She helped form a
religious congregation at the age of 24. Before she was 30 she was wrongly excommunicated and badly treated by Bishops. She spent time in Rome negotiating
approval of her Congregation. In the care of her congregation she travelled by boat, coach and train around Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Even af ter
she suffered a stroke she was re-elected mother General of the Josephites.
What mattered to Mary most was people. And in people, what mattered most was the heart which is
open to love and be loved. Wherever she went she met children in schools, visited prisoners in jails and encouraged the Josephite Sisters who taught in schools
and cared for poor children. She saw each human being as important in God’s eyes and her meetings with each person always spoke of God’s love.
Mary took the name Mary of the Cross. Her life was a
series of trials and humiliations. What kept her going was ultimately God’s love shown through the pain of Christ’s cross. Her pain, like Christ’s was intensely
personal, but borne for the salvation of many.
MARY MACKILLOP PRAYER
Ever generous God, You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop
To live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ And constant in bringing hope and encouragement To those who were disheartened, lonely or needy.
With confidence in your generous providence And through the intercession of Saint Mary MacKillop
We ask that you grant our prayers today. We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy
Spirit so that we too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage, trust and openness.
Ever generous God hear our prayer.
We ask this through Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Peace and best wishes Michael Jones

PAUL KELLY CUP
On Monday 4th of August a team of girls f rom Year 6
travelled to Sydney to play on the SCG to participate in
the NSW Paul Kelly cup AFL f inal. The girls played
three games before it was announced they would play
in the Semi Finals. In the Semi Finals it was a tough
game but the girls came out in f ront and won the semi
f inals. The girls played in the grand f inal against Holy
Family Bathurst. During the Grand Final it was very
close and tense. Helen Tyson got a f ree kick. Time was
ticking as an injured player f rom Holy Family was on
the ground, the girls moved to another f ield to continue
the game with 3 minutes lef t. Helen took her f ree kick
right through the goals which put us in f ront. With 30
seconds to go Ruby Vonarx did an amazing kick
through the goals which put the girls further in f ront.
When the whistle went the girls cheered and thanked
the girls for an amazing game. The girls appreciated
the help and time that was given up by Craig Footman,
Rob McIntyre, Brett Vearing, Mrs Vearing and Miss
Edmanson.

COMMUNICATION WITH TEACHERS When needing to speak to your child’s teacher regarding any concerns , please make an appointment with the teacher rather than just ‘turning up’ right before or after school hoping for a meeting. As you can imagine, the start and end of the school day is quite hectic at the best of times and is never a good time to have a discussion about your child. Teachers can be emailed via the school email address (on front page of newsletter) or you can contact the office between 8.30am and 4.30pm to arrange an interview time .

SICKNESS
With the usual winter illnesses now circulating, we ask that parents please keep children at home when they are unwell with coughs, bad colds and other infectious illnesses. We have recently had large numbers of children unwell in classrooms with
various illnesses, which unfortunately then spread throughout the school. Please be mindful that school sick bay is not a
treatment centre, it is mainly an area for children who
become sick or injured during the day, to wait while
their parents are contacted to collect them.
LOST PROPERTY
We have a very large number of school jackets/jumpers in the lost property trolley this term, most with no name or names of ex-students which have been handed on to current students. Please encourage your children to check this trolley
regularly if they have lost jackets or jumpers. Please also check names on your children’s jackets and jumpers each week, to ensure they have brought the right one home!
