I am sure that you have been aware of the Race ’n’ Respect Campaign which has been adopted in both the MSA Bambino and MSA British Cadet Championships in 2015. The MSA is now launching a national

campaign across all levels of karting which will be officially launched at the Autosport Show in January. The MSA is really pleased that this campaign is fully supported by the National Karting Association (NKA) who will also be launching the Code to their members and accredited circuits. It will subsequently be rolled out across junior car racing and junior dragster Championships.

The Racing Code, which champions respect, fair play, self-control, good manners and sincerity for all within the sport, is underpinned by statements and values for everyone involved in Karting and sets the level of expectation. It places the responsibility upon the individual for their behaviour and manner, before, during and post event.

Ultimately the MSA will deal with cases of disrespect, however Clubs and Championships have an integral role to play in the positive enforcement of the Racing Code and subsequently in dealing with poor behaviour in the initial phases. There is a range of actions that can be taken, starting with a recorded verbal warning and in extreme cases expulsion from the Club or Championship and also onward referral to the MSA. There is little point having a set of rules if no action is taken if and when they are broken, break the Code and bear the consequences!

We all strive for the best possible sporting environment for safe and enjoyable racing. The Racing Code will be an education process and we cannot stress enough how important it is that it is implemented in the best possible and positive light. It is everyone’s responsibility to do this. Similar campaigns have been run successfully in other sports and resulted in an improved experience for current participants, whether competitors or officials and has also led to an increase in the number of volunteers’ and participants’ joining and enjoying their sports.

To help explain the expectations and be available to answer any questions we are arranging some meetings in the coming weeks, starting with Kartmania on Saturday 28th November. The list of dates and venues is below. We do hope that your Club/Championship will be able to send one or two representatives and the MSA will cover reasonable travel costs. We would obviously encourage you to car share as far as possible and travel by the most economical means.

We are very pleased that both Sonja Game and Dan Parker, who have co-ordinated the campaign so far will be with us at the meetings and are happy to share their experiences so far.

Round Up The first round of the 2016 Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship saw good support for the first meeting of the year. The format offered plenty of track time over the whole weekend, with FIFTEEN minute finals! The introduction of standing starts for Honda Cadets and the new nose cone blocks for the non-Cadet classes had a positive effect on driving standards and improvements for the starts, although a handful of senior drivers found themselves recipients of 10 place penalties. A damp track had drivers on wet tyres for most of the day, only the last few finals allowing the option of slicks.

Final 1 - Honda Cadet Harry Thompson took the lead on the first lap and ended up runaway winner. Ben Kasperczak put in a stern challenge early on, but dropped to eighth at half distance in an incident that saw Reggie Duhy lose places as well. Wesley Mason moved into second with Oliver Bearman and Lucas Ellingham in hot pursuit. Mason managed to shake them off as both Ellingham and Bearman succumbed to the recovering Duhy.

1st - Harry Thompson 2nd - Wesley Mason 3rd - Reggie Duhy

Final 2 - Junior TKM / Mini Max Adam Sparrow and Jordan Lee-Chapman dominated Junior TKM, leaving the rest miles behind. Sparrow was able to grow his lead throughout to win comfortably. Bradley White’s mechanical failure worked to the advantage of Abbi Pulling who inherited third. Mini Max novice Archie O’Brien had a good run through the Junior TKMs to finish sixth on the road.

➢ 1st - Adam Sparrow 2nd - Jordan Lee-Chapman 3rd - Abbi Pulling

Final 3 - TKM Extreme Kye Springfield found himself in the lead on lap one, after Michael Cornell and Steven Chisholm both went for the same bit of track at Derek’s Corner. Springfield was soon passed by Matthew Ayres and Owain Rosser and eventually retired. It didn’t take much longer for Rosser to seize the lead and although Ayres did his best to hang on Rosser gradually eased away to win comfortably. With Ross Darlington and Marcus Edmunds falling foul of the new nosecone ruling, Paul Monks inherited third.

➢ 1st - Owain Rosser 2nd - Matthew Ayres 3rd - Paul Monks

Final 4 - X30 Senior Bobby Neil’s early move to pass Joshua Thompson seemed to have paid off as he hung on to win by inches from Aaron Drury, but he fell foul of a dropped nosecone and was relegated ten places. Harry Edwards was another to suffer a ten place penalty, so Tye Mason and Thompson were promoted onto the podium.

➢1st - Aaron Drury 2nd - Tye Mason 3rd - Joshua Thompson

Final 5 - IAME Cadet The top three swapped places several times during this lively final. As lap one concluded, Harry Thompson led Joseph Taylor and Reggie Duhy (having his second outing of the afternoon) with Matthew Rees and Kai Askey not far behind. A lap later, Taylor was up front from Duhy and Thompson. Next time round, it was Duhy’s turn to lead with Thompson up to second and Taylor third! We waited expectantly to see what changes would occur on lap four and were rewarded when Thompson retook the lead from Duhy. Thompson managed to retain his lead for several laps fending off Taylor. Duhy dropped to fourth behind Askey, Rees having faded from the picture, but then it was Askey’s turn to lose out. Although Duhy was back in third, he seemed to be fading as the track dried out. The rain arrived and suddenly Duhy was fastest of the top three. Going onto the last lap, Duhy had caught Taylor and Thompson and challenging for the lead once more. He won the race to the line punching the air in delight as he took the win!

➢ 1st - Reggie Duhy 2nd - Joseph Taylor 3rd - Harry Thompson

Final 6 - X30 Junior This was another final where the driver crossing the line first was destined to go home empty handed. After taking a few laps to get the better of Sam McDonnell, Callum Bradshaw strolled to the line leading by over four seconds. McDonnell looked to have second in his pocket, but as the race reached lap fifteen, he was caught and passed by Brandon Matschull. With Bradshaw’s post race exclusion for an infringement of SRs, Matschull was handed the win, moving McDonnell back to second and promoting Henry Laws to third.

1st - Brandon Matschull 2nd - Sam McDonnell 3rd - Henry Laws

Final 7 - X30 177 / Rotax 177 Masters In a somewhat processional last race of the day, Adam Sadler waltzed away to win X30 by a country mile from Mark Redding and Charlie Whaley. In 177 Masters, Paul Bell finished well ahead of Martin Gower but was then excluded for being underweight!

X30 177: 1st - Adam Sadler 2nd - Mark Redding 3rd - Charlie Whaley

Masters: 1st - Martin Gower
