Dear Parents We are coming to the end of another school year and, as a school, we are proud of how well our children have progressed this year – not only in terms of academic achievement, but in how our children behave themselves and constantly show respect towards everyone. As our Year 6 leave, and our new reception get ready to begin their learning journey at Huish, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly children grow. We will miss our Year 6, but know they will be back. Over the year, we welcome many ex Huish children back to do pre-teacher training and childcare qual- ifications .It is lovely to see them embracing careers which are at once challenging, but incredi- bly fulfilling. Below is a grid which indicates the teaching arrangements for next year. We are lucky enough to be able to extend our 3 set system into Year 4, which I know will really make a difference to our children. This system has been very successful in Year 6 for many years. We will continue to have Mrs Williams on the team supporting children mainly in Years 2 and 3 as a 1:1 tutor, helping them to become fluent readers, writers and mathematicians. Mrs Newton will also be working as a small group tutor in Year 4 and she will also support some children in Year 6. We welcome Mrs Barnes to Year 5 and Miss Jones to Year 4. Mrs Griffin and Mrs Freeman will be jobsharing in Year 4. Mr Napper will be working alongside Mrs Sherrard in Year 2 as our Graduate Teacher Trainee. Dear Parents

We are coming to the end of another school year and, as a school, we are proud of how well our

children have progressed this year – not only in terms of academic achievement, but in how our

children behave themselves and constantly show respect towards everyone. As our Year 6 leave,

and our new reception get ready to begin their learning journey at Huish, it never ceases to

amaze me how quickly children grow. We will miss our Year 6, but know they will be back. Over

the year, we welcome many ex Huish children back to do pre-teacher training and childcare qual-

ifications .It is lovely to see them embracing careers which are at once challenging, but incredi-

bly fulfilling. Below is a grid which indicates the teaching arrangements for next year. We are

lucky enough to be able to extend our 3 set system into Year 4, which I know will really make a

difference to our children. This system has been very successful in Year 6 for many years.

We will continue

to have Mrs Williams on the team supporting children mainly in Years 2 and 3 as a 1:1 tutor, helping them

to become fluent readers, writers and mathematicians. Mrs Newton will also be working as a small group

tutor in Year 4 and she will also support some children in Year 6. We welcome Mrs Barnes to Year 5 and

Miss Jones to Year 4. Mrs Griffin and Mrs Freeman will be jobsharing in Year 4. Mr Napper will be

working alongside Mrs Sherrard in Year 2 as our Graduate Teacher Trainee.

Cycle Safety School Times

Tower of London Visit

We actively encourage our children to cycle to

school and bicycle racks are available. However

please ensure that their cycle is roadworthy and

that they wear a helmet. Also for the safety of

other children they must dismount and push their

cycle once on school grounds.

Car Safety

Please could you ensure children do not

arrive in school before 8.40am unless

they have a pre-arranged club. We can-

not guarantee the safety of the children

until this time as there is not an appro-

priate number of adults on the premises.

We are sorry to have to AGAIN mention Parent Parking. Please DO NOT drop your children off at the bungalows

opposite school or in the school car park. Parking permits are available from the school office to enable you to park

free of charge in the main car park opposite the school.

A member of staff also had a near miss with a child who was running through the staff car park at the end of the

day. Please ensure your children stay in the safe waiting area and do not run in and out of the staff car park through

the hedge.

Year 4 had a fantastic trip to the

Tower of London. While we were

there, we saw the 5 Olympic rings at

Tower Bridge, the Shard, The Gher-

kin, the Houses of Parliament, Big

Ben and the London Eye—even before

we started our tour of the Tower.

We learnt about Henry VIII and his

many wives and all about prisoners’

torture and execution! As well as

seeing the radiant Crown Jewels and

the gleaming armour.

Uniform Team Theme Some of the girls are wearing inappropri-

ately short skirts to school. Please could

all school skirts be knee length. Also some

very glittery unsuitable sandals have ap-

peared in the brief period of sunshine. For

safety reasons toes should be covered.

Many thanks.

Summer Production

Team Theme are once again running their very successful Football

Course over the summer holidays. Monday 23rd –Thursday 26th July,

10.00am—3.00pm will be at Huish Primary School. Your child will bring

home a form or contact Lee Cuff on 07862237350 for more details.

Nestle Box Tops

Please keep sending the Nestle cereal box tops—we have received some

wonderful new books from this scheme.

Rockerfella and Cinderella

Huish Primary School has performed the play of Cinderella Rockerfella. Rocky, who is a rock star, has decided that

fame wasn’t meant for him. He wants to live an ordinary, happy life like any other person. He just wants to find true

love. Cinderella on the other hand, spends all of her time slaving for her horrible, ugly step sisters. They make her

shop, cook, wash and clean but they don’t pay her anything. They envy Cinderella’s beauty. Cinderella’s hope of true

love was beginning to come true when her wonderful Fairy Godmother helped her to go to the ball. At the ball, she

met Rockerfella but as the clock struck twelve, all hope of true love was shattered.

Rehearsals for this production started at Christmas and many actors and actresses have been working very hard to

get into character. We all had to learn many lines and some people had to double-up because we didn’t have enough

actors. Some people had to learn duets and everyone had to sort out a costume. Parents have played a big role in

trying to get all of the props and outfits. Teachers also helped with props and staging and the background and many

other things. We are all very grateful for their help because without them, we would have never done it.

Being a lead role in the production was a huge responsibility. Everyone had to audition at least once. However, for

some people, they had to audition twice. Over the holidays, we practised our lines to get into character. The produc-

tion was an enormous success and it was enjoyed by everyone doing it and watching it. Everyone played a massive

role in the play and we will remember it forever. Miss Hayter and Mrs Carlock gave up an enormous amount of their

time as Director and Producer of Cinderella Rockerfella and we think they made our production a huge success.

By Willow Symes (Rockerfella) and Bethan Foster (Cinderella)

Huish Olympic Week

At Huish last week despite the incredibly unseasonable weather, the children enjoyed an action packed programme of ath-

letics, wheelchair basketball, badminton, martial arts, tennis and gymnastics. As well as this, visitors brought another di-

mension to the week by providing talks about Olympic Sailing and Triathlon. The week culminated with a ‘closing ceremony’

in which all children took part in dance. Although there were many medal winners, all Huish children were congratulated on

their efforts and enthusiasm to try some new sports.

We wish the very best of luck to both Miss Green who will be getting married this

summer, and to Mr Piper who is also getting married over the holidays.

Autumn Term Menu Choices A new style lunchtime choice slip/menu has been issued to your children this week.

You will need to complete the choice slip and return it in a named envelope with the

money to your child’s class teacher. Due to this new system if the choice slips and money are not received in ad-

vance unfortunately your child will be unable to receive a hot school meal. Please cut your form into the three sepa-

rate weeks and pay weekly on a Tuesday for the following week.

Yeovil Federation Maths Competition After school on Thursday 5th July, Mrs Carlock took a team of 4 children to take part in the first ever Yeovil Fed-

eration Maths Competition at Westfield Academy. Taking part was Leah Mann (Year 4) , George Bailey (Year 4),

Sophie Allonby (Year 5) and Sasha Green (Year 5).

The children were fantastic representatives of Huish and competed against 8 other local primary schools. Al chil-

dren worked really hard on their maths and had great fun along the way!

a pre-employment health questionnaire.
