Dear Parents and Caregivers What a fantastic Quiz Night we had on Saturday! Huge congratulations to all those who were part of the organising team no matter how big or small your job was. It is a real sign of just how interested and supportive the Pongakawa School community is that we are able to put on such an awesome event. Well done to all those who created such outstanding costumes it must have taken many of you months to prepare (and for some days to get over it :). Lastly “big ups” to all those who made the top three, you were either very clever or had deep pockets. For the life of me as I write this I cannot quite recall who won but know the team I was in must have been extremely close, at least in our minds. We have a busy week ahead with two events in TECT Pongakawa – THE Action Centre. On Wednesday night we host the regional Young Einstein Competition and then on Thursday we have our Jump Jam Festival. It is great to see the facility being used not only for our local area but by the Wider Western Bay of Plenty as well which of course, given our nice central location was one of the reasons we were able to gain funding. It would be fantastic to see you at either or both of these events; I know it really lifts the kids when Mum, Dad or another member of the family is there. A reminder to those parents whose children need to bring a cell phone to school. It is a school requirement these are dropped off at the school on arrival and picked up at departure time. They should not sit in bags or pockets during the day. For most students a cell phone is really not needed as any message you need to get to them can be done via the office. If your child tells you they need it on the bus because they get bored please don’t be afraid to tell them they could try talking to a friend instead. Students found with a phone, I-pod etc please understand it will be removed, kept at the office and stay there until you are able to pick it up. Lastly, it is very sound practice to check the history on your child’s phone on a regular basis just to be sure you know who they talk to, what about and what they send and receive – it is totally your right and I believe responsibility to do this as a parent despite how much they may protest. Have a fantastic week and thanks once again to our fabulous PTA and to all those who came along or supported our Quiz Night in any way, it is very much appreciated. Yours in teaching Craig Haggo Principal
