PurposeThis document provides an overview of the installation scenarios of the DBS3900 GSM. Itdescribes the features of the application scenarios, associated auxiliary devices, power supplydevices, transmission equipment, installation procedures, and reference documents.

For a DBS3900 indoor site, the BBU can be installed in a standard 19-inch-wide and 2 U-highcabinet or rack. This is referred to as the BBU+19-inch cabinet/rack+RRU embeddedconfigurations.

4 Scenario 4: BBU on the Indoor Wall+RRU

When the -48 V DC power is available at a DBS3900 indoor site, the BBU can be installed onthe indoor wall. This is referred to as the BBU on the indoor wall+RRU embeddedconfigurations.

5 Scenario 5: BBU+PS4890+RRU

When 220 V AC input power is available in a DBS3900 indoor site and a power backup systemis required, the BBU+PS4890+RRU configurations can be used.

6 Scenario 6: BBU+RRU3004 Rack+RRU

When -48 V DC input power is available in a new DBS3900 GSM indoor site, a power supplysystem is required, and the BBU is installed in a small space indoors, the BBU+RRU3004 rack+RRU configurations can be used.

7 Scenario 7: BBU+OMB+RRU

When -48 V DC or 220 V AC input power is available in a new DBS3900 outdoor site, a powersupply system is required, and the BBU is installed in a small space outdoors, the BBU+OMB+RRU configurations can be used.

1 Scenario 1: BBU+APM+RRU

When 220 V AC input power or +24 V DC input power is available in a new DBS3900 site anda new power supply system is required, the BBU+APM+RRU configurations can be used.

Overview of the Scenario

In this scenario, the BBU and transmission equipment are installed in the APM power cabinetwhich provides outdoor protection for the BBU. The RRU can be installed flexibly. Diversecombinations of the BBU, RRU, and auxiliary devices can meet different requirements, such aspower distribution, power backup, and large space for installing transmission devices.

Figure 1-1 shows the BBU+APM+RRU scenario.

The scenario has the following features:

l The APM power cabinet is classified into the APM30 (with the breathable film) and theAPM30H (with the heat exchanger). The APM power cabinet supplies -48 V DC power tothe BBU and RRU. In addition, the APM power cabinet performs battery management andalso monitoring and surge protection.

l The APM30 (with the breathable film) can house 12 Ah or 24 Ah batteries, which supplypower to the distributed NodeB for a short period of time. The Battery Backup Cabinet(BBC), if required, can be configured to implement long-time power backup.

l The APM power cabinet can provide a maximum of 7 U space for installing transmissionequipment.

l The RRU supports flexible installation options. It can be installed on the wall, pole, andtower.

2 Scenario 2: BBU+TMC+RRU

When -48 V DC input power is available in a new DBS3900 outdoor site and a power supplysystem is required, the BBU+TMC+RRU configurations can be used.

Overview of the Scenario

In this scenario, the BBU and transmission equipment are installed in the transmission cabinet(TMC) which provides outdoor protection for the BBU. The RRU can be installed flexibly.Diverse combinations of the BBU, RRU, and auxiliary devices can meet different requirements,such as power distribution, power backup, and large space for installing transmission equipment.

Figure 2-1 shows the BBU+TMC+RRU scenario.

The scenario has the following features:

l The TMC is classified into the TMC with the breathable film and TMC with the heatexchanger (referred to as TMC11H). The TMC supplies the -48 V DC power to the BBUand RRU.

l The TMC can provide a maximum of 7 U space for installing transmission equipment.

l The TMC can be configured with the heater.

l The RRU supports flexible installation options. It can be installed on the wall, pole, andtower.

3 Scenario 3: BBU+19-Inch Cabinet/Rack+RRU

l The BBU can be installed in an existing 19-inch rack or cabinet. In this way, the powersupply system and the transmission system in the existing network can be shared.

4 Scenario 4: BBU on the Indoor Wall+RRU

When the -48 V DC power is available at a DBS3900 indoor site, the BBU can be installed onthe indoor wall. This is referred to as the BBU on the indoor wall+RRU embeddedconfigurations.

Overview of the Scenario

Figure 4-1 shows the BBU on the indoor wall+RRU scenario.

The scenario has the following features:

l The BBU is installed on the indoor wall. Thus, the BBU occupies a small space and canuse the existing power supply system and transmission system.

l For a 3G site co-siting with a 2G site, the BBU and the RRU can use the power supplysystem, transmission system, and antenna system of the BTS in the 2G network. Thus,operators can launch services on the existing 2G network at a very low cost.

5 Scenario 5: BBU+PS4890+RRU

When 220 V AC input power is available in a DBS3900 indoor site and a power backup systemis required, the BBU+PS4890+RRU configurations can be used.

Overview of the ScenarioIn this scenario, the BBU and transmission equipment are installed in the PS4890. The RRU canbe installed flexibly. Diverse combinations of the BBU, RRU, and auxiliary devices can meetdifferent requirements, such as power distribution, power backup, and large space for installingtransmission equipment.

Figure 5-1 shows the BBU+PS4890+RRU scenario.

l The PS4890 supplies -48 V DC power to the distributed NodeB and provides a space of 7U to 13 U for installing customer equipment.

l With the help of batteries, a maximum of 48 V 184 Ah backup power is supported.

6 Scenario 6: BBU+RRU3004 Rack+RRU

When -48 V DC input power is available in a new DBS3900 GSM indoor site, a power supplysystem is required, and the BBU is installed in a small space indoors, the BBU+RRU3004 rack+RRU configurations can be used.

Overview of the ScenarioIn this scenario, the BBU is installed in the RRU3004 rack which provides indoor protection forthe BBU. The RRU can be installed flexibly.

Figure 6-1 shows the BBU+RRU3004 rack+RRU scenario.

7 Scenario 7: BBU+OMB+RRU

When -48 V DC or 220 V AC input power is available in a new DBS3900 outdoor site, a powersupply system is required, and the BBU is installed in a small space outdoors, the BBU+OMB+RRU configurations can be used.

Overview of the ScenarioIn this scenario, the BBU is installed in the Outdoor mini Box (OMB) which provides outdoorprotection for the BBU. The RRU can be installed flexibly.

Figure 7-1 shows the BBU+OMB+RRU scenario.
