Programme

About the Conference

The General DebateThe General Debate is the opportunity for member States to formally express their views on the substantive issues of the Conference by way of formal statements at the highest possible level. The General Debate is expected to open on the afternoon of Monday 21 April 2008 and to conclude on Thursday 24 April 2008. Statements will be broadcast on the Internet in accordance with the order in which delegations have been inscribed on the list of speakers. The texts of statements that are remitted to the secretariat will be reproduced and distributed during the Conference in the language version(s) in which they are received by the secretariat.

The Committee of the WholeAs per past practices, the Conference will establish a Committee of the Whole to consider and report on the substantive items of the Conference, in particular the draft negotiating text. The opening plenary of the Committee of the Whole will take place on Monday afternoon, 21 April 2008 and the closing plenary will take place on Friday morning,25 April 2008. The opening and closing plenaries will be public meetings.

The Civil Society ForumThe Forum will be held from 17 to 25 April 2008. The plenary session of the Forum will take place on 17, 18 and 19 April. Civil society organizations will discuss and �nalize a statement to be presented at the opening plenary of the Conference. The Forum will continue its activities and events in parallel to the Conference from 20 to 25 April 2008.

The World Investment ForumThe Forum will be held on the occassion of the UNCTAD XII Conference from 19 to 22 April2008. It will provide an unprecedented opportunity for policymakers, corporate executives, investors and heads of investment promotion agencies to meet and interact through a series of conferences, networking and social events. It will include interactive sessions on three highly topical themes: prospects for global FDI, changing global production patterns, and FDI in Africa. It will also include policy events, such as the Global Leaders' Investment Debate and the interactive thematic round table 2 on creating an institutionalenvironment conducive to increased foreign investment and sustainable development.

About the Conference

The General DebateThe General Debate is the opportunity for member States to formally express their views on the substantive issues of the Conference by way of formal statements at the highest possible level. The General Debate is expected to open on the afternoon of Monday 21 April 2008 and to conclude on Thursday 24 April 2008. Statements will be broadcast on the Internet in accordance with the order in which delegations have been inscribed on the list of speakers. The texts of statements that are remitted to the secretariat will be reproduced and distributed during the Conference in the language version(s) in which they are received by the secretariat.

The Committee of the WholeAs per past practices, the Conference will establish a Committee of the Whole to consider and report on the substantive items of the Conference, in particular the draft negotiating text. The opening plenary of the Committee of the Whole will take place on Monday afternoon, 21 April 2008 and the closing plenary will take place on Friday morning,25 April 2008. The opening and closing plenaries will be public meetings.

The Civil Society ForumThe Forum will be held from 17 to 25 April 2008. The plenary session of the Forum will take place on 17, 18 and 19 April. Civil society organizations will discuss and �nalize a statement to be presented at the opening plenary of the Conference. The Forum will continue its activities and events in parallel to the Conference from 20 to 25 April 2008.

The World Investment ForumThe Forum will be held on the occassion of the UNCTAD XII Conference from 19 to 22 April2008. It will provide an unprecedented opportunity for policymakers, corporate executives, investors and heads of investment promotion agencies to meet and interact through a series of conferences, networking and social events. It will include interactive sessions on three highly topical themes: prospects for global FDI, changing global production patterns, and FDI in Africa. It will also include policy events, such as the Global Leaders' Investment Debate and the interactive thematic round table 2 on creating an institutionalenvironment conducive to increased foreign investment and sustainable development.

Débat généralLe débat général est l’occasion pour les États membres d’exprimer formellement leur position sur les thèmes de la Conférence au moyen de déclarations officielles. Le débat général débutera l’après-midi du lundi 21 avril 2008 et s’achèvera le jeudi 24 avril 2008. Les déclarations seront diffusées sur Internet suivant l’ordre d’inscription des délégations sur la liste des orateurs. Le texte des déclarations remis au secrétariat sera reproduit et distribué au cours de la Conférence dans les langues dans lesquelles il aura été reçu par le secrétariat.

Comité plénierSelon l’usage, la Conférence créera un comité plénier chargé d’étudier et de rendre compte de l’examen des thèmes de la Conférence, et plus particulièrement du projet de texte de négociation. La séance d’ouverture du Comité plénier se tiendra le lundi après-midi 21 avril 2008 et la séance de clôture le vendredi matin 25 avril 2008. Les séances plénières d’ouverture et de clôture seront publiques.

Forum de la société civileLe Forum de la société civile se tiendra du 17 au 25 avril 2008. Il se réunira en plénière du 17 au 19 avril 2008, pour permettre aux participants d’échanger des informations, d’élaborer un consensus et de finaliser l’exposé de position de la société civile à la Conférence. Ce document sera présenté à la séance d’ouverture du Comité plénier. Le Forum de la société civile poursuivra ses travaux du 20 au 25 avril, parallèlement à la Conférence.

Forum mondial de l’investissementLe forum se tiendra à l’occasion de la CNUCED XII du 19 au 22 avril 2008. Il offrira une occasion sans précédent aux décideurs, aux représentants du secteur privé, aux investisseurs et aux directeurs d’organismes de promotion de l’investissement de se rencontrer et d’interagir à travers une série de conférences, de prises de contact et d’événements sociaux. Le forum comprendra des sessions interactives sur trois thèmes au cœur de l’actualité – les perspectives de l’IED au niveau mondial, changer les tendances de la production mondiale et l’IED en Afrique – et d’autres évènements de haut niveau, tels que le Débat mondial de haut niveau sur l’investissement et la table ronde thématique 2 «Mettre en place un environnement institutionnel propice à un accroissement de l’investissement étranger et à un développement durable».
