Message from the High School Principal:Dear Parents,
For those who know me well you will recognize that I am passionate about ISM High School. So many times
we do things where I sit back and say wow that did not happen when I was at school, or am I really the
principal of a school that can perform such outstanding feats. I had one of those moments last Sunday
afternoon, in the middle of the GIN Conference Closing Ceremony, when Moonie Sohn and Mariella Salazar
sang a duet called What do we do now, while images of 400 guests simultaneously flashed across the
screen. All had been actively engaged in ICARE 2, working with ISMs service learning partners, the
previous day. It was a very powerful moment, to what was an inspiring conference. My congratulations to
Tom McLean and his team who organized this wonderful conference experience. As usual in ISM HS style,
student leaders ran the conference. Tom only appeared on stage in the final 5 minutes of the conference
to say thank you. In addition as part of GIN, this years annual Battle of the Bands finals was held on
Saturday night. Again a student run club, this event alone raised of Php 600,000 for ISM service partners!
Congratulations to Dale Hutchison and his BOB Council for this amazing effort!
This week we are conducting the IASAS Cultural Convention previews and if you have time please visit and
see the fantastic ISM student talent we have on display in the areas of Music, Art, Dance, Drama, Forensics
and Debate. We wish all IASAS participants the best of luck next week. In conjunction with IASAS CulturalConvention we will run a no homework weekend during March 3-4. Teachers are instructed to not set
any NEW homework, however students can use this time wisely to catch up and make progress on larger
assignments and projects if they need to.
It has been a busy time especially for our seniors as much of their IB work has culminated in final
assessments being due. The good news is that in almost all cases the internal assessment is completed and
students can now focus on IB Mock Exams in March and the actual IB/AP exams in May.
I hope to see you on Saturday afternoon at the Dance-Drama preview.
Enjoy the weekend.

The International School Manila Modern Languages
Department is pleased to announce its 2012 Summer
Language Study / Home-stay / Travel Program to Spain. This program is for students 14 years of age or older as
of June 1
st
. It aims to develop students languageproficiency and to broaden their cultural knowledge. This
program is being offered in cooperation with Tandem
(http://www.escuela-montalban.com/index.php). We with
spend three weeks at the Granada campus and one

assists in locating appropriate local resources for the
groups activities, plans outings, maintains a list of local
medical and emergency resources, and helps with the
orientation for group leaders.
Students will receive Spanish classes each morning that
include language and culture subjects and prepare
students for cultural visits. The cultural program will take
place in the afternoons/evenings and will be made up of
various supervised activities that take advantage of the
unique environment while taking into account the
individual interests of the students. Cultural activities
include things such as preparing paella, guided tours of
historical buildings, towns and museums, watching
flamenco dancing, visiting hot water springs, beach trips, horseback riding, etc.
The dates of this trip will be approximately June 2nd
