    Importance of Human Factor

    It is a matter of common knowledge that every

    business organization depends for its

    effective functioning not so much on itsmaterial or financial resources as on its pool

    of able and willing human resources.

    1. This is the only resource which is able to producean output greater than the input.

    2. This resource is animate, active and living.

    3. Human resource is most complex andunpredictable in its behaviour. There is no cookbook formula to guide a manager how to motivatehis workers.

    The earliest roots of this branch of knowledge can be

    traced back to the 18th century to some of the

    writings of Robert Owen a successful textile

    manufacturer of Scotland.

    Owen believed that the volume and quality of a

    workers output were influenced by his total

    environment, i.e., by his conditions both on and off

    the job.

    Robert Owe is regarded as the Father of Personnel

    Management.

    What Is a Human Resource?

    William R. Tracey, defines Human Resources as: "The

    people that staff and operate an organization"; as

    contrasted with the financial and material resources ofan organization.

    Human Resources is also the organizational function that

    deals with the people and issues related to people such

    as compensation, hiring, performance management, andtraining.

    A Human Resource is a single person or employee within

    your organization.

    Definition of HRM

    Human Resource Management (HRM) is the

    function within an organization thatfocuses on recruitment of, managementof, and providing direction for the peoplewho work in the organization. Human

    Resource Management can also beperformed by line managers.
