Dear Participants: Welcome to the HRA 2014 Business Investment Expo & Conference! The Haiti Renewal Alliance (HRA) and its partners: Embassy of Haiti (Washington DC), Center for Facil-itation of Investment in Haiti (CFI), Governor’s Commission on Caribbean Affairs (Maryland), Ameri-can Chambers of Commerce in Haiti (AmCham-Haiti), The New York Consulate of Haiti, the Haitian Round Table, and Ayiti Demain Organization (ADO), welcome you to the Haiti edition of the 2014 HRA Business Investment Expo & Conference. For the past four years, HRA has been at the forefront of promoting “Haiti is Open for Business” in the Diaspora. After four successful conventions in the United States, HRA has chosen Pétionville, Haiti as its first international convention. Our team is proud to launch Haiti’s first Diaspora-led Business In-vestment Exposition designed to engage entrepreneurs and investors to connecting them to opportu-nities in Haiti. The HRA Expo is designed with you in mind. HRA is hosting over 50 speakers and over 60 exhibitors from at least 5 nations from around the world. HRA is showcasing a wide selection of products and services from a diverse range of sectors including construction, energy, agriculture, IT, telecommuni-cations, financials and much more. HRA has prepared a very robust and informative program. HRA encourages you to take advantage of your time here, make it productive, network, and create part-nerships that will make us a stronger community. HRA staff stands ready to serve you. Should you need any assistance, stop by the information table in the lobby or see any member of our staff. As we celebrate our 210th independence, let us embrace this new realm of possibility to transform our great nation from an aid dependent state into the historic beacon of hope and freedom she once represented to the world. Thank you for being an inspiration and taking this journey with HRA! Firmin Backer President, Haiti Renewal Alliance

Dear conference attendee: The Haitian Diaspora continues to play a significant role in Haiti’s economy by sending about 25% of GDP in remittances every year. This amounts to about $2 billion in capital sent to pay for expenditures such as school, food, telephone, healthcare, rent and more. Though such remittances are important for families in Haiti, the time has come for a more engaged Diaspora with Investments in the country, thereby creating jobs and wealth. In addition, the Diaspora can play another significant with Haiti’s GDP growth through tourism, whether it is adventure focused, history or just sun, sand and beach. The Diaspora can use many organizations based in the US, such as HRA which based in DC, or local Hai-tian American Chambers of Commerce located in Florida, New York, Georgia, and Massachusetts. Such organizations and associations are “key” in assisting the Diaspora in networking, and hopefully creating companies to invest in the country, rather than a small company headed by 1 investor with limited capi-tal to invest. In Haiti, the Diaspora has access to the American Chamber of Commerce in Haiti as a network, as well as the other local Chambers and Associations. We recommend the Diaspora to organize itself, establish the key contacts with the private sector in the US and Haiti, in order to make more sound investment deci-sions locally. We look forward to an upswing in Diaspora led investments in Haiti in 2014, especially in the outskirts of the country. Such investments will be a welcome addition following Haiti’s economy rebound with a 4% GDP growth in 2013 according to the CFI and a 25% gain in FDI. The HRA conference is a great Forum for the Diaspora and the local private sector to network, eliminate barriers to invest, and push the country forward. Philippe Saint-Cyr Executive Director, Amcham Haiti
