Dear faculty and staff,

Higher education is facing challenging times making it more important than ever that

Human Resources successfully engage our workforce, to create an amazing culture

where our faculty and staff feel recognized, empowered and rewarded. In 2019, for

the first time in more than 10 years, we announced there will be reduced healthcare

premiums for 2020. The University implemented a merit salary increase effective

January 1st. These initiatives are easily recognizable by the impact you may have

felt in your paycheck. What might not be as recognizable to everyone is the

investment we’re making in you in other ways. We implemented a recruitment policy

that provides internal employment opportunities for existing talent. We expanded

Staff Development Day to include faculty, renaming it “Employee Development

Day.” We’re continuing to create development opportunities through our leadership

and management development programs. We said “thank you” to our faculty and

staff through our employee recognition ceremonies which broke attendance records.

Currently, we’re also focused on growing a robust university-wide health and

wellness program to support the work and personal lives of faculty and staff in their

efforts to be more productive members of a vibrant university community. We’re

proud of what we’ve accomplished in 2019 as a division and the positive impact

we've had, and we're looking forward to continuing our progress in 2020.

FY2020 PMDP Mid-Year Check-In

As part of Pace University’s Performance Management and Development Process

(PMDP), an FY2020 mid-year discussion between each staff member and their

supervisor is recommended. This mid-year check-in provides an opportunity for

supervisors and staff members to discuss progress on goals and for supervisors to

provide feedback on performance to date.

The mid-year performance check-in includes an electronic acknowledgement of the

performance discussion between the supervisor and employee. This is done through

the PMDP system and will be submitted to Human Resources.

Access a quick online training video explaining the mid-year check-in performance

discussion, including navigational instructions to indicate completion of the process in

the PMDP system.

The mid-year check-in should be completed by February 28, 2020.

Health and Wellness Scavenger Hunt – Pleasantville

November 2019

Written by Vanessa Hall

Special Events Coordinator, Westchester

I had so much fun looking for the scavenger hunt objects! I usually take time to walk

the campus, but this time it was with a specific purpose. While looking for the objects,

I encountered and came upon things that I had glanced over and didn’t pay much

attention to. But this time I was aware of my surroundings more than the last.

I started the scavenger hunt with the easy objects - Parking Lot D, Costello House,

Pace clock – and then I had to think a little harder. I remembered seeing a phone on

the outside of a building. Ahh…yes! The Willcox Hall building. Bingo! Then the

poodle. That must be a sorority symbol. Yup! Got it! By the way, there’s a phone

located on the outside of Choate House.

I headed over to the Environmental Center area looking for the Cheever Nature Trail

sign. That was pretty easy. I thought the moss covered stone bench must be on the

nature trail somewhere. Wrong! At the end of the trail I see this huge pond that I

didn’t realize was there. I had glanced over the garden from a distance in my past

walks, but there it was right in front of me! I saw a student volunteering in the garden

and decided to introduce myself.

Then on to look for the last two objects. That darn moss covered stone bench and

the iron dragon. As I’m heading up the hill to the OSA building I hear rustling in the

brush. I look and there’s this HUGE deer prancing along in the same direction as I!

What a beautiful sight! I’m thinking, “that must be a good sign.” I’m headed in the

right direction to find this moss-covered stone bench. Wrong again. But I did find the

iron dragon sitting high atop the entrance of the OSA building.

Whew! Seven down, one to go. That moss-covered stone bench! Where could it be?

Hmmm. There’s one section of the campus I didn’t explore on my scavenger hunt, so

I head in that direction. Up another hill! Here I go!

I reach the top of the hill where the Goldstein Acadmeic building is, along with the Art

Barn, and Buschbaum. I think I see what is a stone bench sitting on top of this small

hill and head in that direction. THERE IT IS!! Mission accomplished!!!

As I head back to my office, I ponder the benefits of such a walk. Walking not only

burns calories, but it strengthens the heart, boosts your energy, tones your legs, and

improves your mood. Think about it! Don’t you feel GREAT after a good walk? And

what about all the creative juices that were flowing while you were walking? You can

The Health and Wellness Committee represented at the Employee Recognition

Ceremonies in November, promoting the Great American Smokeout, with smoking

cessation kits and other wellness information and raffles.

Survey Says…

The Health and Wellness Committee members wanted to know how the Committee

could be most impactful, and had surveys at the Employee Development Days, and

staff and faculty council meetings. Participants who completed a survey received a

Pace Yourself to Wellness cooler or water bottle! About 300 surveys were completed

by staff and faculty! The Committee will respond to what times work best for onsite

programs, preferred method of participation, and will address barriers to participation.

What did You Say?

Here are what some of our employees said about the programs:
