Impulse Sparktester (DryTesting Unit) for the Insula-tion Test in Extrusion andWinding Processes. Com-plies with MIL and NEMA.

The IST impulse sparktester type consists of acommon electronic unit which is available ascompact unit or as a 19 in. rack, and of variouselectrodes with or without box, depending onthe application.

Chain electrodes are the most common type oftesting electrodes. They provide well definedvoltage distributions and apply the test voltagedirectly to the outer layer of the cable andconductor.Tube electrodes are used when contact be-tween wire and electrode is to be avoided.

The electronic unit contains the high voltagecontrol as well as all monitoring, alarm andcontrol elements.A generator produces an impulse frequency of250 Hz (standard adjustment). A high voltagecoil generates negative needle pulses of defi-ned wave shape (according to standard specifi-cations). The peak voltage can be continuouslyadjusted and is displayed on a calibrated instru-ment. A sensitive filter circuit detects sparkswhich are caused by insulation faults. Thesefault pulses are filtered out by the electronicsand transmitted to the counter.

The impulse sparktester IST can be used uni-versally in extrusion lines, rewind lines, coilwinding machines, in testing stations, etc. Theunit detects insulation faults such as pinholes,very thin insulation or bare patches.All insulating materials for cables can be tested.
