Take  The  Challenge  (TTC)    Childhood  overweight  and  obesity  has  been  iden2fied  as  a  major

health  issue  in  WA.    Nutri2on  and  physical  ac2vity  are  integral  to  the  preven2on  and  management  of  overweight  and  obesity.    The  team    Popula2on  Health  Units  (Kimberley,  South  West,  Pilbara,  Great  Southern,  Wheatbelt,  Goldfields),  WA  Country  Health  Service;  Child  and  Adolescent  Community  Health  Service,  Child  and  Adolescent  Health  Service;  WA  Cancer  Council  &  Murdoch  Uni    What  is  it?    Take  the  Challenge  is  an  eight-‐week  nutri2on  and  physical  ac2vity  program.  Primary  school  children,  through  their  teachers,  are  taught  nutri2on  and  physical  ac2vity  lessons  across  the  curriculum.

Take  The  Challenge  (TTC)    Aims

The  program  promotes  being  ac2ve,  drinking  water  and  ea2ng  healthy  food  as  a  means  of  bea2ng  lifestyle  diseases.

Who  does  it?      TTC  was  released  in  2011  with  8,200  primary  school  students  taking  part.  Uptake  of  the  program  consistently  increased  in  subsequent  years.  The  success  of  the  program  was  in  part,  due  to  the  program  aligning  well  with  the  WA  Healthy  Schools  Project.

Feedback  from  teachers  consistently  reports  that  students’  have  a  beSer  understanding  of  the  preven2on  of  lifestyle  diseases  and  they  have  par2cipated  in  more  physical  ac2vity  than  they  would  usually  do.
