OMV High Performance Bitumen
Paving Grade Bitumen
10/20 up to 30/45 usage in MA (blended in PmB-plants)
Polymer Modified Bitumen
Increasing the live time of the roads (total costs)
Better resistance against crack, low temperature behaviour, …
Elasticity caused by PmB (less deformations)
Driving safety (road users)
5 |OMV Refining & Marketing, Business Development C&I
OMV High Performance Bitumen
OMV Bitumen Special
NV for low temperature applications (energy saving, fumes and aerosols, …)
RC for Recycling of asphalt (resourcefulness, lower total costs, …)
OMV Bitumen Plus
Better sticking behaviour
Lowering transport costs (local aggregate)
Increasing the live time of the roads (maintenance costs)

Usage of OMV PmB RC in Austria
Project started in 2009:
“LISTEN” to the needs of the market
Go to customers and “ASK” them (action)
Cooperate with authorities and “ASK” them too (action)
CHECK the technology in other countries and study of this technic
Feasibility study in OMV (development and tests)
Presentation of the technology, technic and the development together with a customer in front of the authorities (LOBBYING)
9 |OMV Refining & Marketing, Business Development C&I
Usage of OMV PmB RC in Austria
Define a possible TEST TRACK with the customer and the authorities
Creation of a plan how the test track will be built and SURVEYED
Presence at the site and collecting the DATA
Perform the TEST (Customer, OMV, University, …)
Recording of the FEELING with the new Product (Customer, Authorities)
Design a presentation about the SUCCESS for further sites
Article PRINTED in journals for road works

Usage of OMV PmB RC in Austria
Implement the DEVELOPMENT in tenders and standards
Present you PRODUCT at trade fairs, trainings with other costumers, …
Show that OMV in an “innovative and proactive company”
Reap the fruits of your business – SALES
Beginning in 2009, test track in 2010 and with 2012 usage on highways (written in the tenders).

Output of developments
Usage of OMV Starfalt PmB RC:
Higher price of 20€ per to
BUT: less consumption of the PmB RC (bitumen from the RC)
BUT: less consumption of new aggregates (aggregates from the RC)
BUT: no costs for dumping !
Additional cost for energy by cold adding (more heating of aggregates)

Output of developments
Calculation with PmB RC (cold adding)

Output of developments
Usage of OMV Bitumen PLUS:
Higher price of 20€ per to
BUT: less transport costs (distance to aggregate sources)
BUT: usage of local aggregates (less time losses at the plant)
BUT: less danger of confusion (caused by many different aggregates)
Mandatory USAGE in Thüringen (Germany)E.g.: decrease the maintenance costs, drivers safety, …

Output of developments
 Less consumption of Gas (example)
Calculation for Austria with 9,0 mio. to of asphalt
- Average reduction with -30°C: - 16% energy consumption
 Projection
- Energy consumption: ca. 800.685.000 kWh
- Possible reduction (-16%): -128.109.600 kWh
- Conversion to Gas: - 11.531.017 m³
Total reduction of CO2: -28.700 to a year
