Understanding the cloudIt is challenging to make sense of cloud computing. Hype,

misconceptions, and the lack of dened nomenclature make it

hard to understand how the cloud creates value. HP denes cloud

computing as enabling highly scalable, elastic, technology-enabled

services that can be easily consumed over the Internet as needed on

    a pay-per-use basis.

HP sees the cloud as the next stage in the evolution of the Internet.

The cloud enables new services, new connections, and new business

value by enabling everything to be delivered as a servicefrom

computing power to business processes and personal interactionswhenever and however its needed. Instant availability of

information at any location will change how organizations

    communicate and collaborate.

Cloud computing is a way to refer to the underlying technologies

that make it possible to scale services horizontally, ex internal

resources rapidly, and correlate workload processing to achieve

predictable throughput when there is variable demand.

Like any new technology paradigm, cloud services are additive

they are likely to be blended into a hybrid environment. Companies

should look holistically at their service portfolio, which will comprise

in-house, hosted, managed, and cloud services.

Investigating your optionsBefore you can get the most from using the cloud, you need a clear

understanding of what you can accomplish with it.

Without question, the promise of the cloud is appealing. When

organizations talk about leveraging cloud services, one of the main

benets they talk about is lowering costs. But cloud services are not

just about cost that is too simplistic. What they should be thinking

about is how cloud services might save time, provide a competitive

advantage, enable organizations to be more responsive, and provide

    cost savings.

Businesses we talk with are asking key questions, such as:

Can cloud computing reduce IT costs and deliver attractive return

    on investment?

Can you control your services and information over the clouddo

you have visibility to services over cloud and their impact?

Can you govern cloud delivery? Do cloud or other sources t your

    governance model?

How do you manage security for services from the cloud?

How can virtualization and automation deliver cloud benets?

Can you meet compliance requirements with services delivered

    across multiple sources?

At HP, we have made it our job to ensure you understand all aspects of

the cloudfrom overall landscape to precise strategy and delivery.

    Evaluating your cloud ftness

Applications Suitability for Cloud is a consultative service, directed

at evaluating an applications t to a cloud environment. The

service is typically delivered as a component to our Applications

    Transformation to Cloud Services.

The service consists of the following functions:

Initiation phaseHP consultants hold an Application Transformation to Cloud

Workshop to review completeness of your HP Cloud Suitability

    Questionnaire with your subject-matter experts.

    Analysis phase

We evaluate each application for its suitability to cloud in

accordance with the Business and Technical Alignment models

    as shown in Figure 1.

    Reporting phase

solutions are designed to help CIOs and their IT

organizations become the builder and broker of IT

    servicesmaintaining control, building value, and

leveraging the power of private and public cloud

    sourcestraditional services, private cloud

services, and public cloud services. Its critical

that you align the right model to the right service.

This means you need to build, consume, and

manage the right cloud services in an efective

    and secure way.
