Securing your Head Judge and StaffSelecting a quality judge staff may be the most

significant decision you make towards the

successful operation of your event. Judges selected

also have access to communities beyond your

normal customer base to promote your event. Thequality of judging and their efficiency, will affect the

    satisfaction of your players.

You should start immediately to get your Head Judge.

Head Judge: Your Regional Judge Coordinator can help you find the head judge for your event. The list of regional

    coordinators can be found athttp://blogs.magicjudges.org/contact/contact-a-regional-coordinator/.

The first step will be to select a Head Judge. Preliminary Pro Tour Qualifiers require a Level 2 Judge as your Head

Judge and Grand Prix Trials require a Level 1. There are instances where we recommend a level 3 and that is based

on the attendance of your event. If you do not know an experienced judge please contact your Regional Judge

    Coordinator for assistance and recommendations.

Staffing a Grand Prix Trial: The table below can help you calculate how many judges you may need based on

attendance (includes head judge, but not scorekeeper)

Your Head Judge should be the highest level judge you staff.

We recommend you additionally use another judge if your event is Limited format and greater than 160

players to assist in logistics and deck verification for the first two rounds.

You should begin staffing your event immediately and have secured your Head Judge (HJ) and staff for

your event 4 weeks prior to you event.

There are several means to find and contact judges. Your best means is a judge you have worked with

before. Some other means are:1. Contacting any judge:http://blogs.magicjudges.org/contact

    2. Finding a judge near you:http://apps.magicjudges.org/map/

    3.

    Regional Coordinator information:http://wiki.magicjudges.org/en/w/Regional_Coordinators

Preliminary Pro Tour Qualifiers require a minimum Level 2 certified judge acting as the Head Judge, a

Level 3 certified judge is recommended for qualifiers expecting 120+ players.

The Head Judge can help with staffing your event.

Have your HJ recommend a back-up in case of emergency.
