How to use the Consult Preparation Folder The folder is divided into three sections: 1. Knowing Consulting This section contains documents which give an insight into consulting as a career, skills required to succeed in consulting and the roles and responsibilities involved. The Consult Club’s documents are largely a culmination of the consulting experiences and preparation methodologies of the IIMA students The Vault Career Guide to Consulting is one of the most comprehensive documents available on the profession and is a highly recommended read 2. Preparation One of the most critical aspects of a consulting interview is the ‘Case Interview’. There are a number of case books available and the Consult Club has picked some of the most useful of them for your preparation. It’s highly imperative that you don’t simply read the cases. A case interview environment needs to be simulated in which you act as the interviewee and ask some to administer the cases to you. It’s also advisable that you divide yourself into smaller groups of 4-5 and practise the cases amongst yourself to make the most out of these case books. Based on the importance of these case books, the folder has been further divided into three sub-categories: a.) Must do This contains frameworks and casebook that we think is necessary to give you the flavor of case-based interviews which are common in Consulting. Even if you are more focused on some other function than consulting, we strongly encourage everyone to prepare this section. b.) Should do This folder has additional casebooks for practice and few more takes on frameworks. The purpose is to provide you with enough practice with a diverse set of cases. Remember that you need not cover all of them; just choose 2 or 3. c.) Can do Apart from more cases, the main focus of this folder is company specific preparation which has the previous interview experiences and other information that could be helpful for your preparation. The division is not strict and simply aims to provide every one of you with a roadmap for preparation. This preparation is in addition to HR preparation that you all are expected to do. 3. Knowledge Documents As it’s of paramount importance to do well in cases, an understanding of key sectors is likely (although not necessary) to provide a good starting point to solve the cases. The Consult Club’s newsletters and magazines cover the key sectors and their basic understanding.

Its highly imperative that you dont simply read the cases. A case interview environment needs to be

simulated in which you act as the interviewee and ask some to administer the cases to you. Its also

advisable that you divide yourself into smaller groups of 4-5 and practise the cases amongst yourself to make

the most out of these case books.

Based on the importance of these case books, the folder has been further divided into three sub-categories:

    a.) Must do

This contains frameworks and casebook that we think is necessary to give you the flavor of case-based

interviews which are common in Consulting. Even if you are more focused on some other function than

consulting, we strongly encourage everyone to prepare this section.

    b.) Should do

This folder has additional casebooks for practice and few more takes on frameworks. The purpose is to

provide you with enough practice with a diverse set of cases. Remember that you need not cover all of

them; just choose 2 or 3.

    c.) Can do

Apart from more cases, the main focus of this folder is company specific preparation which has the

previous interview experiences and other information that could be helpful for your preparation.

The division is not strict and simply aims to provide every one of you with a roadmap for preparation.

This preparation is in addition to HR preparation that you all are expected to do.

    3. Knowledge Documents As its of paramount importance to do well in cases, an understanding of key sectors is likely (although not

necessary) to provide a good starting point to solve the cases. The Consult Clubs newsletters and magazines

cover the key sectors and their basic understanding.
