DISCUSSIONS FORUMS Forums in Learning Hub allow instructors and learners to exchange comments and questions in a public discussion forum within a course. This enables everyone in the course to share information and benefit from each other’s opinions and input. Simply, it's a place where messages can be posted for public display.

The forums in Learning Hub are great for keeping in contact with other people on your course.

In course discussion forums, you can:

initially, use the program forum to introduce yourself and get to know your virtual classmates and your instructor;

during each course you can read forum posts (messages) made by instructors and other learners;

download documents, sound files and images that have been attached to forum posts; and

write your own forum posts.

Type in your message (don’t forget to type in a subject title) and click on the Post to forum button on the bottom of the page.

You can also see who started each discussion, how many replies there are to the original post, and when the last post was made.

General tips Before asking a question, check out the questions other learners have asked, and

the responses received. Try to add your comments to the appropriate thread or topic area. Give others a chance to comment. Be mindful of cultural differences. Refrain from making remarks which are racist, sexist or offensive. Keep to the topics in the course/unit – if you wish to discuss other topics, you are

encouraged to do so privately.

Online behaviour The practices of courtesy and respect that apply in face-to-face contexts also apply online and require even more attention. Before you participate in any forum, chat or group activity bear in mind:

Derogatory or inappropriate comments are unacceptable and are considered in the same way as if they occurred in the physical classroom.

That comments published on discussion forums are a matter of record and are subject to the same rules as all communications within FRNSW.
