How to Succeed in Business by Really Trying: STRATEGIC PLANNING TO MEET LEGAL CHALLENGES2014 HOSPITALITY LAW PRACTICE GROUP SEMINAR

November 5-7, 2014

The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans New Orleans, LouisianaCompanies in the Hospitality and Retail industries aren’t successful by accident. To the contrary, they are intentional in developing company goals and strategies and planning for success. On the legal front, they are proactive in anticipating and addressing legal issues including managerial and regulatory issues, employment issues, third-party claims and litigation, and business litigation. In this conference, we will offer tips and strategies to the company professional and to outside counsel on how to plan for and navigate through the litigation minefields that they encounter.

New Orleans, a city renowned for music, culture, and hospitality, creates the perfect backdrop for our conference attendees to take time away from their daily responsibilities and to learn from, and network with, the best in the business: General Counsels, claims professionals and experienced outside counsel. The common business focus of our conference attendees is providing services and products to the general public. That focus will be highlighted as our conference takes place in the heart of the French Quarter in a city whose commitment to customer service is second to none.

CLOSING WITH A BANG (NOT A WHIMPER)Closing argument is the last, best chance for counsel to convince a jury of the rightness of his or her client’s case. A great closing can “seal the deal” or change the course of the case. A poor closing can have drastic effects. Using creativity, demonstration and lively discussion, this panel will cover the “Art of the Great Closing Argument” with advice for do’s and don’ts to conclude your case at trial.

HOW TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN A SUCCESSFUL RESTAURANT: FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY AND BEYONDWhere the culinary culture of New Orleans is concerned, you don’t get much more “in-the-thick-of-it” than Ralph Brennan. Ralph is a third generation scion of the family whose name is synonymous with New Orleans restaurants. He literally grew up immersed in restaurants. Today, The Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group includes five restaurants in the metropolitan New Orleans area and Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen® located in the Downtown Disney® District at the DISNEYLAND® Resort. Ralph also co-owns two New Orleans landmark restaurants, Mr. B’s Bistro and Commander’s Palace, in addition to Brennan’s of Houston. At the time of this printing, he is in the process of acquiring and restoring another New Orleans landmark restaurant -- this one created by his family almost 60 years ago, namely the restaurant formerly known as Brennan’s. With this current project in mind, Ralph will offer personal insight and practical tips for taking a restaurant concept to reality and then building on that success.
