How to spot a Phishing EmailWhether it’s you or someone you know, someone at some point, has or will receive a phishing email. Phishing emails may look real at first glance, but in fact, are ones disguised to get sensitive information from you. The best protection is to know how to spot them so you don’t take the bait. Here are some red flags that can help detect a phishing email and keep you from being subjected to
cyber fraud. But first, let’s talk about what the term “phishing” means...

Be aware of WHO and WHERE
your emails are coming from.
The email address of one of yourfavorite places,
may be mispelled.
A phishing email will often times have
a slight mispelling of websites or email
addresses.
In this fake EXAMPLE,a “c” is used, instead of an “o” in the word
“store”.
Cyber criminals bait people by creating email
addresses similiar to places you shop or do business with, so that at a glance
you’ll reply to.
Phishing emails will often times refer to you as
“Dear Customer” instead of your name because they don’t have the information they would like
to have.
Examples of red flags in Phishing Emails
“Phishing is the fraudulent attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details
by disguising as a trustworthy electronic communication.” - Wikipedia
Emails sent during early morning hours can be a ‘red flag’
that they are phishing emails. [email protected]
If you receive an email and think
to yourself, “I DIDN’T ORDER
THAT.”
Cyber criminals will often email you about a situation
that didn’t occur, to get you to respond immediately without
thinking.
This may be a phishing email.
Do some double checkingbefore replying.

Phishing emails use phrases like “respond immediately” to get a quick reply without you second guessing it.
Avoid clicking on attachments or links that you weren’t expecting. They may have ransomware or redirect you to a fraudulent site that
asks for your credit card or other sensitive information.
Know what to look for and what to avoid,to keep your email inbox and computer
that much safer.
