www.rainscapes.org How to Make a Planting Plan If you are installing a rain garden or conservation landscape, you must submit a Planting Plan and Plant List after your on-site visit. A landscape designer can do this for you. If you are doing the project yourself, please follow the guidelines below. If using a berm, include the height of the berm If possible, show in relation to a structure, and indicate the distance from the structure. Garden must be a minimum of 10’ away from all buildings. Include a graphic scale since the designs are often resized when photocopied. This label is good, but you must also include a graphic scale as shown above. Include a North arrow. (Google maps can help with this.) One method is to draw the individual plants and then connect them with a line. (Example above.) Another method is to draw a “blob” that shows a group- ing of the same species of plants. Be sure to indicate how many plants are in each blob. (Example right.) Using graph paper is not required but can be helpful.
