1 IntroductionThese installation instructions are intended to provide you with sufficient information to successfully install the following three products. They are not intended to provide you with any guidance on how to use the tools.

Sybase PowerDesigner 16.5 Sybase PowerDesigner 16.5 EBF3 (Maintenance)

2 Organizational RolesThe following roles are impacted by these installation instructions:

Data Architects within IM and EDAo Installation of all products is mandatory

Data Warehouse Consultant(s) within IM. o Installation of all products is mandatory

Database Administrators within IMo Installation of all products is mandatory

3 Time to InstallYou should set aside 2 hours for the installation of the software.

4 Prerequisite Installation Activities

4.1 Access to Software

To install the products identified within this document you must have access to following folders within the specified server.

Server: \\PDESBCCWDVAPP01/PowerDesigner

Folder: \PD 16.5 - Installation Files\Manuals 16.5 - Product Manuals\ebf2117 - Product maintenance installation files

Read Access to the server and the shared directory is required.

4.2 Firewall requirementsThe following ports should be open as well

Server: PDESBCCWDVAPP01Ports: 32999, 27010 and 27011

Used for:Repository Proxy Server : 32999License Server : 27010 and 27011

An easy test to verify that the ports are open, execute the following command from the command prompt:

telnet pdesbccwdvapp01 32999 ,repeat for ports 27010 and 27011

If the port is open the screen will go blank else an error will be displayed. In case of the latter a firewall request should be submitted to open the ports.

5 PowerDesigner 16.5 Installation

5.1 Product Installation

Connect to the server via Windows Explorer \\PDESBCCWDVAPP01/PowerDesigner

\\PDESBCCWDVAPP01\PowerDesigner\SP03\ PowerDesigner165SP03x64

Open directory PD 16.5 and execute autorun.exe

Click run when security warning pops up

The Powerdesigner install menu will be displayed

Select the first option “Install PowerDesigner 16.5”Click run when security warning pops upThe welcome screen will be displayed.

Click Next. A dialog window will be shown asking the license type: select floating License – Served

Click next

The License Server selection screen will be displayed.Enter PDESBCCWDVAPP01 for license server name. Ensure that the port number is 27010

Click Next

The Install Package selection screen will popup

If you have a: DBA RoleSelect DataArchitect/DE from the package list. The selection does not influence the installation just what components you may use.

DA RoleSelect InformationArchitect from the package list. The selection does not influence the installation just what components you may use.

EA RoleFor normal DA activities InformationArchitect will be sufficient, EA is needed for XML and UML modeling.

Click next

Select Canada as country and you better agree with the license terms because you won’t be able to proceed until you do

Click next to Accept the default destination directory

Accept all the features. (if you select eclipse (optional) you will be asked to point to the IDA/RSA install directory). You may want to deselect unselect visual studio integration.

Click next

Select all the options on the user profile and notation selection screen

Click nextClick next on Program folders screen to accept the default

Review your settings and click next for the install to run its pathClick finish when done

While waiting for the installation you may want to view some tutorial videos accessible from the main installation screen. Doing this will certainly improve productivity scores.

The next step is to install some maintenancePlease follow the step as described in

Please follow the instruction as described in Section 6 Maintenance Installation to install required maintenance.

The Installation is now completed.

6 Maintenance InstallationPlease Connect to \\PDESBCCWDVAPP01\PowerDesigner\EBF21407 ESD 3\\PDESBCCWDVAPP01\PowerDesigner\SP03\EBF 22451_2 16.5 SP03 PL01Run PDES1650.4057.EBF3.msiPDES1653.4313.PL01(x64).msiAnd follow the prompts

(sample screen – may differ depending on EBF #)

The tutorial videos are once again available for your use.

7 Repository Connection Setup

PowerDesigner models are maintained in a central repository. The next steps will guide you to obtain a connection to the Repository Server

To invoke PowerDesigner:Run Powerdesigner from programs/Sybase/powerdesigner

Select Repository/Repository Definitions

On the first line enter the name and set the connection type to proxy

Click applyDouble click on the line to open up the proxy definition screen

Server name is PDESBCCWDVAPP01From the drop down list against instance name select PD_Proxy

Click test to verify everything is honkey doryClick okClick ok to save repository settings

You can now connect to the repositorySelect Repository/Repository connectUse your office connect user id and password to connect

Click ok. Progress will be displayed in the output window. The first time you are connecting may take a while in order to synchronize your local environment with the repository.When done the library synchronization screen will be displayed. Press ok to continue.

The Object browser are your main entry into the tool. Local – Models in your local workspace. You may have multiple workspaces. It is advisable to organize your workspace to mirror the repository. Glossary – Glossary of terms. To activate change your model options to use the glossary for name checking and abbreviationsRepository – list of models stored in the Repository

Please send your office connect id to the PD Administrator to connect you id to the applicable security group.

Please view the Tutorial Videos to gain an insight in the use of PD.

8 Install PowerDesigner Viewer 16.5

PowerDesignerViewer allow you to access the models in the Repository without the right to modify them and therefore requires no license key.

Run PowerDesigner165_Viewer.exe to install the read only copy of PD.

Click NextClick Next to accept the default install directory

Click Next to select default folder.Click next to start install

Click Finish to complete the installation.

Follow the steps as described in section 7: Repository Setup to setup a connection. Please use user Guest password: Powerdesigner165 to connect to the repository.
