What is Green Economy All About?

Green Economy can be understood as an effective and an efficient method to improve human well being and maintain social parity by extensively reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.

This activity relates to creating an economy which is dependent largely on green and renewable energy thereby reducing the use of fossil fuels, decreasing the emission of harmful greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the productiveness of energy usage, recycling materials, developing and adopting renewable sources of energy.

By embracing a green economy and activities, a process of global protection is initiated by securing the future generations from hazardous environmental hazards. Green economy also seeks to alleviate poverty by enhancing economic growth, income opportunities and social inclusion.

A very important aspect of a green economy is education. Green energy education has become an imperative part of everyone's study, be it retirees, professionals, homemakers or students, keeping in mind the ailing picture of the environment.

Institutes like CEES provide Energy Education and give insights on how every commodity has a value and how necessary it is to attribute importance to the quality of a commodity and not its quantity. Green Energy Education explains the need for regeneration of individuals, communities and ecosystems by slowing down the accumulation of either money or material.

Misconceptions About Green Economy

Various concerns regarding the green economy concept have been raised.

Firstly we must keep in mind that green economy brings about an enduring enhancement to our present and our further generation. The one-dimensional approach that considers it to be purely "environmental," without fully taking into account its development and equality dimensions, must be given careful attention as it can supersede the holistic sustainable development dimension, resulting into negative effects on developing countries.

Another threat is a 'one-size-fits-all approach whereby all countries are treated in the same manner, regardless of their stage of development. However, developing countries should be given special treatment and more lenient obligations should be imposed on them as part of green energy support.

Moreover, certain threats posed by green economy mentioned in a UN report include using the environment for trade protectionism purposes. "In particular, developed countries may use this as a principle or concept to justify unilateral trade measures against the products of developing countries," it notes, citing as an example plans to impose a 'carbon tariff' or 'border adjustment

tax' on products from countries which do not impose a CO2 cap on their industry.

Additional trade-related risks of misusing

the green economy concept include trying

to gain market access under the guise of

environment - such as developed

countries demanding elimination of tariffs

on their 'environmental' goods.Developing countries may also be forced to

compete with production that is subsidized in the industrialized world without being able

to impose corrective measures themselves, and may also come up against technical

standards that their exporters cannot meet.

The environmental menace and the misuse of the green economy concept, is a sensitive issue

that needs to be perceived correctly. “Its never too late for any good work!” So, lets strive globally to contribute in the green area.

Diverse Sectors:

Green jobs are seen spanning in areas like Buildings and Construction, Transportation, Agriculture, Forests, Basic industries and Recycling. The Proportion of Greenhouse gas emissions, carbon footprint has reached its peak, therefore bringing up green industries is the call of the day, as it would heal the environment by ameliorating the energy efficiency through clean and un-conventional energy practices.

Take a quick green job quiz and check if you really know what a Green Job means!

Interesting facts:

U.S President Barack Obama has pledged to create over 5 million green-

collar jobs over the next ten years. Indias emerging green jobs sector too

holds out the promise of 10,500,000 jobs by the end of the decade as

investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies are

soaring.

'

India's green sector includes jobs that range from being an environmental architect designing sustainable homes, organic farmers and environmental engineers. Take the case of India's solar energy technology ventures, wind turbine manufacturers, jatropha farms or eco-tourism ventures. “The forecast of 10.5 million jobs by the end of the decade is a figure on the high side but it is definitely achievable, as there is a glaring need for a huge base of trained talent in these areas. In addition, the IT-BPO industry also has a part to play in the green jobs boom. According to industry estimates, the $71.7 billion IT-BPO industry provides direct employment to nearly 2.23 million, the estimates for direct involvement in creation and management of delivery systems for clean energy via software.

What is a Green Job?

Green or Green Collar Job is work related to the protection of ecosystems, biodiversity, reduction of carbon print, waste and different (water, soil, noise and other) pollutions.Green Opportunity creates diverse careers- in agriculture, manufacturing, administration, services, research and development, which contributes largely to preserving or restoring environmental quality.

What are the skills required for green jobs?

“Knowledge & Good Experience is the first and final step to achieve all the endeavors!”

Business & Environmental Experience:

Most of the organizations recruit people with good business experience. Having environmental

experience will add a feather to the hat and demonstrate a wider skill set

Stop displaying the go green attitude:

Bragging less about the go green nature is indispensable.

Organizations (including the non-profits) need people who

understand how a business functions and are practical and

realistic. If you refuse to use computers, fly or travel to work by

car, for environmental reasons, you're going to reduce the

chances of getting many positions.

Green Jobs are open to all:

Environmental degrees are useful but it will not stop others

from diverse fields like (engineering, management,

administration) etc. to enter into the green un-conventional

roles, as environmental know-how and a progressive ability

are some of the many factors that can boost the occupancy in

the green jobs.

Training in green Jobs available:

General Awareness:

There are now an increasing number of renewable energy focused courses being offered across

the world. Undergraduate and Post-graduate degrees in Renewable Energy Technologies,

Sustainable Development and Sustainable Building Design are now available. Some of these can

be undertaken via distance learning approaches.

There is an increasing emphasis on language skills. Job descriptions often have specialist skill sets

combined with bilingual requirements. Strong language skills combined with proven success in a

similar role is enough to interest many international companies who are developing operations in

new markets.

It is equally important to study the government protocols, market conditions in order to gauge the

skills required in the green job sector

Language skills, an added advantage:

1. Solar EngineerA Solar Operations Engineer is essentially an architect of new solar energy facilities. They design new solar systems, supervise and inspect the structures during construction, then test and monitor the new facilities. Solar Operations Engineers are generally considered to be experts on solar energy technology. They help develop new technologies, and adapt existing solar technologies to new, different circumstances.

2. Solar Lab ResearcherThis unique research field measures solar radiation and other meteorological data continuously and shares the information with government agencies, industry, academia, and international laboratories and agencies. These data are used for climate change studies, atmospheric research, renewable energy conversion system testing, and more.

3. Solar Panel Fabricator Specializes in the making of solar panel technology

How Do You Get Educated on Energy? 1010

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

Energy education if started at individual level can harness the needed effort to make the world free of pollution, degradation and poverty. Three general objectives can be met, with appropriate education on energy conservation:

Identification of roles in society and at individual level regarding energy conservation and saving.

Creation of better awareness of the energy issues and their background.

Imparting deeper understanding of the benefits from green actions, to society and individuals.

A lot of awareness has been created about the importance of energy education; hence a rising trend is witnessed in the energy sector.

Various colleges, universities offer green energy courses to build up the necessary knowledge and experience among the students. CEES- College of Energy, Environment and Sustainability offers various green energy courses with distinguished faculty having expertise in the energy sector and Corporate Mentorship Program which enables the students to connect with industry experts, get practical exposure and make their presence felt in the green energy industry!
