HOW THE PPBA SUPPORTS BUSINESS BY PRESIDENT JIM NOWAK
The PPBA has two stated goals in its Bi-Laws: To support the community and to
support business. I want to talk about how the PPBA supports business and
more importantly how you can use the PPBA to help your business.
1. Networking. Com e to the m eeting. The first hour of every m eet-
ing is open for networking. The 1st half hour is a social hour. The 2nd half hour
is dinner. Come to the meetings, meet other members. Network.
2. Commercials. W e offer every m em ber the chance to give a one
minute commercial at the meetings. Tell the members about your business,
what you do and what type of customer you are looking for. We have two every
meeting, we could have more.
3. Display. Any m em ber can set up a table at a m eeting and display
your product or service. We only need to know in advance you are doing it.
4. Business to Business. If you are offer ing a discount to m em bers.
Tell us about it and put that special on the web site.
5. Our own “Valpak”. You can put your promotional material in with the
PPBA news letter. If you have a coupon you need to get it to Jamie before the
20th of each month and we will include it with the newsletter.
6. Journal. The Journal has offered a 10% discount to PPBA m em -
bers. The PPBA logo must be included in the ad.
7. Facebook. You can place your business prom otions on the PPBA Facebook page.

SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST
Holiday Celebration Meeting scheduled for October 8th at Lighthouse Landing at 7pm. Let’s make our little town spectacular this holiday season. Get in on the plan-ning. We need your help!
BUSINESS IN POINT PLACE BY LEN SYREK
WE NEED YOUR BLOOD!!!
How would you like to be in business
or have just started a new business in
an area where this past winter has
just been brutal with many days hold-
ing in the sub zero temperatures
along with an accumulative snow fall
of over seven feet without a January
thaw! Spring was almost nonexistent
followed by a summer where cooler
temperatures prevailed.
There have been a few surprises with
the Lighthouse Landing stepping up
as a place to stop by and see what’s
going on this week. Ace Hardware has
just opened its doors and we are all
wishing them well.
On the other end of the Point /
Shoreland Business District, Mer-
chants Landing is filling up their
empty building spaces with new busi-
nesses a little bit at a time. This too is
a good thing for Point Place.
Point Place Businesses Community:
We are a Service Community
Customer Base local for the most
part
Synergy Base is lacking. Promote
other businesses in community is
needed!
Tourism Lacking. It’s important
we find new money to give this
community a shot in the arm.
Traffic patterns out there are
greater in the summer months.
Believe this or not but residents
are not aware of the goings on
out here in this community!!
Note#1: There w as a new pro-
spective business owner who was
planning on opening a business out
here. They were doing their home
work as they set in a chair and count-
ed vehicles moving up and down
Summit Street in August. Well they
thought there was enough traffic to
support their business. The new busi-
ness opened up in November and was
out of business in the spring. No traf-
fic to support a new business!!
Note#2: Murphy ’s Law. A & W was
a small restaurant that opened in
May and closed each September.
Why? Mr. Murphy knew traffic was
better in the summer time then at
other times of the year!
Businesses
I would like to believe all of the busi-
nesses out here all have a business
plan in place. All companies go
through climate changes as the mar-
ket place is ever changing. What was
successful last year may no longer be
in favor today! That’s why business
plans are needed to be reevaluated
quarterly or at least annually when
revenues are falling short of projec-
tions!
Threats are to be identified.
Our weaknesses in this market place
must be stated and understood.
Adjustments are needed to be made
to regenerate interest in shoppers.
Qualified employees who like their
job reflect their moods to customers,
this is Important!
Sandpiper Cruise
We had a great time on our
Sandpiper cruise in August.
PPBA member Mary Dalby
was a wonderful host and
the weather was perfect for
our sunset cruise. Thirty-six
people attended the two
hour event.

throughout Point Place are being
asked to hold Garage Sales. Also,

VISIONS OF CULLEN PARK BY VEE STADER
4
Enclosed in this month’s newsletter is a flyer for Visions of Cullen Park. It contains
information regarding the Kroger Community Rewards program. Besides private
donations, the Kroger program is our only source of funds for our treasury. We do
not collect any dues or ask for money from attendees and our long list of dedicated
volunteers. All monies are put right back into the many projects undertaken by VCP.
So we are asking that you take time to read both sides and, if you are a Kroger shop-
per, sign up to participate. Using your Kroger card you can follow the instructions
and the ID number and when you shop, proceeds from a portion of your purchase
will be deposited in our
treasury. THERE IS NO
COST TO YOU! We are a
501C3 under the Legacy
Foundation of the PPBA.
Our most recent accom-
plishment was the instal-
lation of a kayak/canoe
launch at the park, thanks
to monetary and materials
donations and the Kroger
program
If you register now, the period will end on March 31, 2015 with renewal on April 1,
2015.
Thanks for taking time to read this.

September 19, 2014:
At their September 10th. monthly meeting, the Legacy Foundation Steering
Committee adopted a program featuring volunteer “coordinators” to work
directly with key governmental and volunteer areas to expand and improve
infrastructure support for the Point Place and Shoreland communities. The
committee confirmed their belief that support of our communities is critical to
business and neighborhood development going forward.
The enclosed News Release explaining details of this exciting program will
appear soon in the Point Shoreland Journal. Please consider volunteering to
become a Coordinator in an area within a category that you feel particularly
qualified for.
Please review the News Release and forward your resume’ per the instructions
therein if you wish to qualify. Simply call Bob Kneisley at 419-726-9000 if you
have questions concerning this unique opportunity to sustain and build our
communities.
Respectfully submitted, LEGACY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION Bob Kneisley, President
According to the Legacy Community Foundation Code of Regulations as amended March 16, 2011, Articles 3-11 and 3-17 permit the expansion of Community Service Committees in-volving public volunteers. Selected volunteers will join a quarterly Steer-ing Committee meeting to better address the needs of the Point Place and Shoreland communities. The following committees are suggested. What can you add to the list? Who do you know? Each chairperson would be chosen based upon their response to an article on Facebook and in the Point/Shoreland Journal seeking personal data sheets and a brief outline of the applicant’s intended approach for each position they wish to chair. Each chairperson will serve for a one-year term with subsequent terms determined by the Selection Committee based upon performance. All responses to the public invitation will be received at our Facebook site and the PPBA mailbox. Each will be reviewed by the Legacy Steering Committee Selection Committee.

If business is down, your health
is suffering, you’ve gotten bad
news, whatever the thing or situ-
ation is that is weighing you
down, know that you were made
for greatness. It is in your DNA
that you can withstand. You are
like a palm tree. A palm tree can
withstand hurricane force and
will bend for hours. As soon as
the storm is over and the wind
calms the palm tree stands back
up. It is through these storms
that the root system grows and
gets stronger. When life hands
you a hurricane be a palm tree.

Tom Stagner, Debbie Speegle, Jamie Westfall, Bob
Kneisley or Pat Stimson
