If you look at the health scenario in our country, you are expected to be pretty disappointed as statistically we lack behind. There could be a variety of reasons for that, including the large population of India, which in turn results in decrease in the living conditions, especially in congested urban and distant rural areas, where proper sanitation and water are facilities that are not available to all. Such basic necessities give rise to diseases if not available in clean condition to all.

Unimmunized and partially immunized children are most susceptible to childhood diseases and are at a much higher risk of dying as compared to fully immunized children.

Every year 5 lakh children die in India due to vaccine preventable diseases and 89 lakh children remain at risk because they are not fully immunized against vaccine preventable diseases.

Even more than that, routine immunization prevents outbreaks of diseases by keeping them in control in a region or area. This helps in distribution of labour in the health system; also, Routine Immunization Programs in India are statistically important because they give us an idea of about how many people now has access to vaccines and also about population parameters of health.
