Houston County 2019 Economic Impact Analysis
The forest sector directly contributed $10.4 million in industry output and employed 73
people with a payroll of $2.5 million in Houston County. The county received $3.4 million directly from the
forest sector through payroll, other employee compensation, and property taxes. Including direct,
indirect, and induced impacts, the forest sector had a total economic impact of $16 million in industry
output and supported 119 jobs with a payroll of $6.5 million. Every job created in the sector resulted in
another 0.63 jobs in the county. Every dollar generated in the sector contributed an additional 53 cents to
the rest of the county economy.
Economic Impacts of the Forest Sector in the County
Houston County ranked 35th among all East Texas counties in terms
of output value of the forest sector in 2019.
The wood-based sector ranked 7th among manufacturing sector
employers in the county in 2019.
