Housekeeping  Simple rules to do well in this class1. Be Respectful. To every person, yourself, and every assignment as art and work ('nuff said).2. Show up to class. Check the syllabus as to how attendance effects your grade, be on time , check your email, and stay for the entire period .3. Do the planning, do the work, and do it on time. Talent, or lack of- means nothing compared to legitimate and organized work.4. Read the syllabus, help sheets and the assignments. See the paperwork to read the paperwork, to understand the paperwork- Knowledge is power. 5. Set a Goal. For your ideas , make the ideas personal, look at ART, studio time is good & can be fun instead of work. 6.  Do more with the writing, do more with the images, do more than what you HAVE to do. ("Make.  Good.  Art." - Neil Gaiman)  The art side of the class has set standards, but your experience does not. Each student must bring themselves to each and every project.  Finding that path will lead to good work and good grades. 7. More.  What makes a panel is more detail, more setting, more story- more than just a person and a speech bubble… (or less. Less can work too. See Terry Moore.)8. Excuses.  Things happen, things come up (for everyone), just say so- but still get the work done and done to a standard.

Be respectful. To every person, yourself, and every assignment as art and work.

Do the planning, do the work, and do it on time. Talent, or lack of it means nothing compared to legitimate and

organized work.

Show up to class. Check the syllabus as to how attendance effects your grade, be on

time, and stay for the entire period...and check your email.

Tips, tricks and extras...I can't do it for you, it won't do it itself. So that leaves you.

Please reconsider all excuses before you use them, then reconsider

them again...I work with individuals that are homeless, drug addicts,

alcoholics, and people with severe mental health issues- what excuse

exactly do you think will work?

Before complaining about the work, or having a job- realize every

student here has issues and work, and every faculty member does

also...and see above.

Page 6: Housekeeping

Focus on what you know, not what you don't! In other words- if you

like funny- do funny. If you like horror- do horror. Make it about you,

then it does become easy, and it almost does do itself.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you

always got. Art is about exploration. Not just exploration of materials-

but exploring ideas. Get out of your comfort zone.

'Nuff said.

Now, if you are that guy.

The one who lives and breathes and knows

all there is to know about comics- you

know...THAT GUY (or GIRL). If the

semester will be one loOOOong argument

filled with corrections of expertise-

Please, let me know right now. That way I

know where I can set the expectation bar

for your work and story-telling…

It should be epic.

If not, let's work together to make

something worthwhile.

b) The character driven comic: Reocurring characters, comic strips. Some are short story based, some go on and on.

There are 2 basic types of graphic novels/comics (but they can overlap and interchange in countless manners)

a) The story driven comic: Often times these are story driven, one shot deals, they can be straight forward or experimental, serious or funny.

Now, what are you going to do?

For the next class:All materials to begin work, and a democratic vote on3 ideas for the mid semester MCC Comic Anthology.
