PRESIDENT’S RAMBLE Hi everyone,
Last month’s meeting was the first one this year to be held in Harden !
The meeting was held in Peter and Sue McCarthy’s new shed, a magnificent building, which not only
accommodates their vehicle collection, but still left us ample room within the 4 sq. metre rules. The
meeting was well attended, although we missed a few Harden members who were not able to attend.
Prior to the meeting 18 of us dined at the Harden Bowling Club which again was a first for 2020 !
Hugh McMinn had the great idea of presenting restauranteur Anna with a little gift, (box of
chocolates?) to thank her for the 16 years of fine food and service she has provided the club. She
accepted, a little surprised.
The Minutes of the meeting outline discussion and decisions made on the evening, so there is no need
for me to elucidate.
I would like to thank all members who attended, and in fact all meetings carried out this year under
the more trying conditions .
Our next meeting will be in Coota on Monday 7th December in Graeme and Robyn Snape’s shed, The
Old Toy Factory, at 7.30pm. – over the Railway Line – Florance Street.
Prior to our next meeting, we will be enjoying scheduled runs:
The first one to Canowindra, on Sunday 22nd November. Morning Tea will be at Young – so we’ll
advise Young Heritage Motor Club – some may join us.
Then Inspection Day on the following Sunday, 29th November. And our Christmas Picnic Lunch on
Sunday 6th December.
Please check the details in Coming Events and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Now looking ahead into 2021 : The VSCCA ( Vintage Sports Car Club of Australia ) are planning to run
their Sprint meeting at Coota airport on Saturday 27th March 2021. It is my hope that our club can hold
the South West Get Together on that day, which we had to postpone this year. This is subject to
confirmation, but perhaps it is time to notify all the other clubs.
In closing my report I would like to thank you all for your support this year - a difficult year to plan
activities. However, it is encouraging to see the flame still burns in our club, and let’s hope before too
long we can really burn some fuel. . . If you still have the inclination and the horsepower and some
rubber !
Yours with Grace, Space and Pace,
MAL
P.S.
Looking towards our registration day and studying the new regulations pertaining to our classic vehicle
concessional registration, I have done some thinking.
I wonder who put together the new rules, what qualifications they have, and how much experience they
have ? - especially on older vehicles, employing many different systems to today’s cars.
Somehow we won’t find the answers.
5
What I can tell you though is a little about the 8 people who hold the office of Vehicle Inspector in our
club. Collectively, they have amassed approximately 750,000 hours of experience during their working
lives !
They have worked as motor mechanics, auto electricians, garage proprietors, diesel fitters, machinists,
Technical College teachers, including head of automotive studies, Research and Development
technicians, motor cycle mechanics, production engineers, motor vehicle road testers, boat builders,
and aircraft maintenance engineers. I am sure there is even more expertise.
In addition to all this huge amount of expertise, these people have also built cars from scratch,
competed in circuit racing and sprint events, which some still do even into their 80’s. They have also
competed in Hill Climbs, car rallies and gymkhanas plus off road 4x4 competitions, even tackling
successfully the tortuous Paris to Dakar route through Africa.
The famous Irish playwright, Oscar Wilde, said that rules are for the guidance of wise men and the
obeyance of fools.
I’m not calling anyone a fool, but I’m certainly calling our vehicle inspectors wise !
Oh yes, one more thing I almost forgot - the most valuable tool in the tool box - getting hard to find it
nowadays - our inspectors have it in bucket loads - Common Sense !
A sincere thank you - you keep us on the road.
ANNUAL VEHICLE INSPECTION
All vehicles on Conditional Registration must be inspected and passed for roadworthiness prior to
registration renewal each year.
The CAMC Inspection Day will be held on Sunday 29th
November 2020 commencing at 9AM at the Automotive Workshop of the Cootamundra TAFE College, Mackay Street Cootamundra.
When you present your vehicle for inspection, please bring with you:
(a) Registration renewal papers (if you have received them) and
(b) Annual Club Membership renewal fee ($30), for 2021 or your receipt
showing that you have already paid.
When your vehicle has been inspected and passed, and your membership paid, the “Conditional
Registration Historic Vehicle Declaration” form (included with your registration renewal – but I have
some in case you have not yet received your papers) can be completed and signed declaring that:
(a) The vehicle is in a safe operating condition, and
(b) The registered operator is a financial member of the club.
If your registration renewal is due during December or January bring the vehicle to the inspection day, even
though you may not have received your renewal papers.
For new members who may wish to put a vehicle on Conditional Registration for the first time, RTA
application forms will be available.
There will be tea and coffee on hand for morning tea. REMINDER
Attention – CAMC Vehicle Inspectors The Annual Inspection for Registration Roadworthiness for CAMC vehicles will be held on
Sunday 29th
November commencing at 9AM at the Cootamundra TAFE College
Automotive Workshop.
If you are available on that day, your help would be greatly appreciated.

The comment about the Log Book Scheme in the NEWS for November is incorrect.
The A.C.T. SYSTEM HAS NOT CHANGED. The government has agreed to the 60 day concept
but the changes have yet to be determined and procedures for implementation agreed. The
ACT Council of Motor Clubs expects to see the changes in place about 1 July 2021.

The hotel manager was always rude to everyone – his staff, his suppliers and even his guests. He was so inn considerate.
My sister joined the convent and had renounced her worldly possessions, taken her vows and spent months in study.
When I saw her next, I asked her how it was going. She said it was nun of my business.
An unfortunate shopper in Chemist Warehouse got totally soaked in perfume when a shelf collapsed. Then, to make matters
worse, her hair caught fire. She was incensed.
Educating schoolkids was always difficult for the cross-eyed teacher. She had trouble controlling her pupils.
The NSW police detective solved the murder investigation when he accidentally dropped his mobile phone. That was when he
cracked the case.

“Really? What kind is it?”
“Twelve thirty.”

PADDY: “Mick, how’d you ever manage to get rid of that old Ford?”
MICK: “Well it weren’t easy, Paddy. First, we advertised it for sale and nobody’d buy it. Then we advertised it For Free and
nobody’d take it.
“Finally we parked it around behind the house and moved away.”
