Views across Horsey Mere from the top. Refreshments and shop. Also a pleasant walk along the dyke to a viewpoint over the Mere. Waxham Barn was built in the 1570s by the Woodhouse family and is constructed using parts of 14th and 15th century monasteries that the Woodhouses bought after Henry VIII closed them down. Café. For opening times, call 01692 598824. You can walk down several tracks across the sand dunes or down the beach road in Sea Palling to the long sandy beach. Norfolk Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve is open year round, 10am-5pm. There is a small charge for entry; free for children and NWT members. The visitor centre is open from April to September. Call 01692 598276 during the season for further information. Potter Heigham is a very well- known Broads village, full of visitors and boats in the summer. The medieval bridge crosses the river and there are shops and cafés around the staithe with a picnic area. The old village and church is some distance away from the river, across the main road.
