Welcome to 2018 Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) Horse Competition. Horses have been an Ekka highlight since the very first show in 1876, when the best stallion and best heavy draught stallion were recognised. Today, the horse competitions attract on average 2,300 entries across four sections - Horse, Thoroughbred, Showjumping and Farriers and Blacksmiths. More than 15 breeds of horses are showcased over eight days, including for the first time in three years the beautiful colours like Appaloosas, Paints, Pintos and Palominos. The Horse Exhibitor Guide is back again in 2018, packed with essential competition information. Inside you’ll find highlights, maps, what’s new, judging information, parking details and an overview of each of our horse competitions. It is available for download at www.ekka. com.au and will be regularly updated. Ekka’s Fashions on the Field Competition presented by Moët and Chandon will once again run in conjunction with Thoroughbred Day on August 13, which showcases the beauty and versatility of thoroughbred horses. Offering more than $25,000 in prizes, the Fashions on the Field competition is similar to ones held at race days across the country. The Ekka is all about showcasing the best of the best our state has to offer and this competition continues to highlight the world-class horsemen and women in Queensland. I look forward to seeing you all at the 2018 Royal Queensland Show. Ian Ferguson RNA Councillor in Charge
