(BAT 101) Behavior in Training

Orientation Seminar This dynamic introductory class will teach

you how dogs learn and how to manage

common behavior issues.

Attendance in this seminar is

required before beginning any

entry-level class listed below but there is

no obligation to register for any other

class. Some students find this seminar is all

they need to get started training with their

dog at home. Do not bring your dog! This

presentation is for owners only.

Dates: Call 314-832-3647 for dates,

Offered on alternating Mon. & Tues.

Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm

Fees: $20 per Household

Puppy Kindergarten / Elementary Puppies 8 to 14 weeks start in the Puppy

Kindergarten class where

puppies are socialized to many

different people, puppies, surfaces and

sounds in a safe learning

environment. Puppies 15 weeks to 6

months join the Puppy Elementary class

and participate in the AKC

Socialization Training Activity &

Responsibility (S.T.A.R) Puppy

Program (open to all dogs of any back-

ground).

Foundation Manners Any dog 4 months and older can start in this

class and learn the basic skills of a well-

mannered dog or the

foundation skills for a competition

companion. Dogs learn attention and focus,

being handled, leaving things when asked, sit-

ting politely to greet people, relaxing on a

mat, coming when called, waiting at door-

ways, staying in place and walking past dis-

tractions.

Dates: Ongoing

Times: 8:15pm–9:15pm

Mondays and Thursdays

Fees: $90 for 5 classes

Rally and Competition Obedience These are advanced classes for dogs that

have already learned foundation skills. These

classes teach the skills needed to compete in

AKC Rally and Obedience competitive

sports. These are great classes if you are look-

ing for a fun challenge for you and your dog

or you are already an obedience enthusiast

who enjoys the thrill of competition sport. All

dogs can now compete in AKC events, includ-

ing mixed breeds so any well-mannered dog is

welcome.

Ameristar Casino St. Charles

Try your luck at the Ameristar which boasts the

largest selection of slot machines and table

games in the metro St. Louis. Venture through

the 130,000 square-foot casino with 3,300 slots

and games, including a live poker room. Take

advantage of the $5 credit for $20 offered to our

JOIN THE SHREWSBURIANS!

We invite all Shrewsbury residents ages 55

and older to come socialize with others in the

community! Learn about upcoming day trips

and activities, enjoy entertainment and re-

freshments. We also celebrate major holi-

days with our wonderful catered lunches.

Meetings are held the second Monday of

each month at 12 noon.

SENIOR PROGRAMS

Card Club

Meet us at the City Center for some Pinochle,

Bridge and other card games. The relaxed

atmosphere and light snacks make for an enjoya-

ble morning. Drop in players welcome; come

early to get your spot.

Date: 2nd Wednesday of every month

Eagle Watching Trip

The Alton region is home to the second largest

population of migrating American Bald Eagles in

the US. The tour includes a continental breakfast,

overview of the eagles and birding, guided ea-

gle and bird tour of the area and lunch at Fast

Eddies Bon Air. (Lunch is your own expense and

requires cash.) Fee includes motor coach and

tours.

Date: January 14th

Pick up: KCC 8:00am /WG 8:15am

Time: 8am-3pm

Fee: $40

St. Pat’s Bingo

Put your green on and join us for St. Patrick’s Day

Bingo. We’ll have fun catching up with friends

and enjoying 12 games of Bingo. All participants

play two cards, and prizes are given to the win-

ners. Lunch will be catered. Registration ends

March 11th.

Tour of Washington, MO

Our visit to Washington, MO will include a visit to a

world renowned artist, a tour of the history muse-

um, Lunch at Cowans restaurant, a short walk to

St. Francis Borgia’s Church, Williams Brothers Meat

Market, a stop at Hillerman’s Nursery and finally

the Blumenhoff Winery. Fee includes motor

coach, tour guide, lunch and tour fees.

Fairmont Park Horse Racing

We are headed out to the headquarters of the

Budweiser Clydesdales breeding operation and

The Rec Pass includes use of the gym during open play, the weight room, and game room.

Passes are valid for one year from date of purchase. All guests must be

All persons wishing to purchase a pass at the resident rate must be

listed on the occupancy permit at their current residence.

Participants must pre-register for programs. Programs with low enrollment are subject to

cancellation three days prior to start of program. Early registration is highly recommended.

All fees associated with any programs must be paid for at time of registration. We accept

Cash, Check or Visa, MasterCard or Discover.

Refunds will only be given if:

1. The participant is unable to attend due to illness. A physician’s statement must be

presented before a refund will be disbursed. A prorated amount will be given if the

program has already begun.

2. The program is cancelled. Refunds will be given to all paid participants.

3. The participant makes a written request before the start of the second class. Request

received after the second class will entitle the participant to a prorated refund at the

director’s discretion.

It’s time to dip, duck, dive, and

dodge! Shrewsbury is now forming an

Adult Co-ed Recreational Dodgeball

league. Teams get 8 regular season

matches (each match consists of 7

games), plus all teams qualify for post

-season double elimination tourna-

ment. Participants must be 18 years

or older and each team can consist

of 10 players with 6 on the court at

one time.

Weights for Women Are you a woman interested in having a weight

training routine? We have the answer! This class

will provide you with all of the basic knowledge of

weight training along with proper instruction.

These high intensity weight lifting routines will tone

you up and will have you dropping those extra

pounds in no time! This class will require you to

bring your own equipment.

St Louis Kali-Silat Martial Arts This class covers a full spectrum of

martial arts styles, from the traditional to unique

Kwon Do, and ground fighting. This class is meant

to enhance your martial arts knowledge. All styles

and experience levels are welcome.

Ackfeld Park Ackfeld Park consists of a total of 6.8 acres

of land. It is located at the intersection of

Shrewsbury Avenue and Sutherland Ave.

Brinkop Brinkop Park’s 3.4 acres are nestled in a

beautiful residential area west of the

restroom facility.

Hartry Park Hartry Park is the smallest park located in the

City of Shrewsbury. The park is one acre of

pure enjoyment and is located at 4100 Exeter

Ave. There is a playground and a multi-

purpose court for all to use.

Wehner Park Wehner Park is Shrewsbury’s largest park consisting of 31.8 acres. This park contains three ball fields, one soccer field, two pavilions, two playgrounds, and two tennis courts. Wehner Pavilion is located at 7600 Hazel Ave., and the Festival Site Pavilion is located at 5200 Lenox Ave.

SHREWSBURY SHARKS SWIM TEAM

The Shrewsbury swim team is a member of the Municipal Swim League. Team membership is open to swimmers ages 6-18. Team

registration and a parent meeting will be held Thursday, April 16th at 6pm at the Shrewsbury City Center. The meeting is for all

new families or anyone interested in more information on the team. Registration opens up on April 15th and is limited to 200

swimmers. All fees and volunteer sign - ups must be complete by the first practice. Shrewsbury swim team is open to aquatic cen-

Park Program This supervised outdoor program will give your

kids a chance to explore St. Louis and have fun

through traditional camp activities. Limited to

the first 200 participants. Camp backpack and

snack included in price. This camp will be held

rain or shine. Camp located in Wehner Park.

Post-Camp Care

We will have extended hours for our Park Pro-

gram. After lunch we will play games, make

crafts, and two days a week go to the Shrewsbury

Park Program Junior Leaders

Junior leader applications can be picked up at

the Parks and Recreation front desk after March

1st. The application deadline will be May 16th.

Junior leaders will be picked based on past ex-

perience, availability and interview. All appli-

cants must be at least 13 years old at the time

camp begins on June 9th.

Camp Dragonfly

New this summer! Campers can go for three

days or five days! Camp Dragonfly campers

will enjoy arts and crafts, exploring the park,

and our exciting on-site “Field Trips”. This pre-

school camp emphasizes summer fun with

friends and new adventures at Wehner Park.

This is a great way to get your little one

outside and active while learning valuable

skills to help with coordination, teamwork and

self-confidence. Camp will be held rain or

shine. Must be potty trained by June 9th.

Parents’ Shopping Day Out Have some last minute shopping to do? Need

time to assemble or wrap those gifts? Just need

some time to relax after the many weeks of the

holiday madness? Let us help! We will make gin-

ger bread houses, gifts for parents and grandpar-

ents, games in the gym and have a pizza lunch.

Brickz 4 Kidz Model designer 101 Spring Break Workshop How do LEGO brick model-designers come up

with their ideas? Where do they begin, and how

do the ideas go from concept to completion?

This workshop will explore the creative process of

model design. Students will learn the function of

different LEGO components and discover how

those components can work together to create

all kinds of solid structures and moving parts us-

ing motorized LEGO bricks. Dates: March 18-19th Times: 9am-12pm Grades: K-5 Fees: $65 per child

Grand Ballroom: Our grand ballroom is an ideal

place to host a wedding reception or trivia night.

The room seats up to 240 guests “party style” and 300

guests “theater style”. This room includes a prep

kitchen, stage, two bars and a parquet dance floor.

The openness of this room will make any event grand!

Multi-Purpose Room: Our multi-purpose room is perfect

for reunions, holiday parties, dances, anniversaries, birth-

days and more. This room seats up to 200 guests “party

style” and up to 250 guests “theater style”. A prep kitch-

en is available for storing and/or reheating food. Addi-

tionally, the room has a built in stage area that can be

utilized for presentations, or announcements. There’s

plenty of room to move around and mingle, so make

your next party a hit in our multi-purpose room.

Meeting Rooms: For your next important meeting or special

gathering, we’ve got you covered. We have four meeting

rooms that hold up to 40 guests “party style” and up to 60

guests seated “theater style”. We also have one meeting

room holds up to 80 guests “party style” and up to 120 guests

“ theater style”. A small prep kitchen available upstairs for all

meeting room

SPECIAL EVENTS

Bicycle Safety Rodeo TRAILNET will be sponsoring a Bicycle Safety Ro-

deo in the parking lot of the Shrewsbury City

Center. The event will feature bike safety

checks, bike safety presentation, practice

course, helmet check and safety quiz. All partici-

pants will receive a certificate after completing

a safety quiz. Register by March 26th

CARDS IN THE PARK

Join us at the Festival Pavilion on

Friday May 16th to watch the St.

Louis Cardinals take on the Atlanta

Braves on a huge blow up screen. The game

begins at 7:15 pm so show up early and get

a good seat on the lawn. We encourage you

to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. We will

have concessions for sale

throughout the game! This

is a free event so bring all

of your friends!

Brickz 4 Kidz Model designer 101 Spring Break Workshop How do LEGO brick model-designers come up

with their ideas? Where do they begin, and how

do the ideas go from concept to completion?

This workshop will explore the creative process of

model design. Students will learn the function of

different LEGO components and discover how

those components can work together to create

all kinds of solid structures and moving parts us-

ing motorized LEGO bricks. Dates: March 18-19th Times: 9am-12pm Grades: K-5 Fees: $65 per child

Kleinschmidt of Oh Sheila Chocolates will

“Experience Wine” Block series of classes. This set of classes can be taken individually or as a set. We recommend the entire series as

each week is a building block for the next. Each class you will taste representative samples

of the wines being discussed in lecture. Options for food and wine pairings will be discussed

each class.

March 5, 2014 - The wines of Germany will be featured. In addition to learning how to

read labels as well as how to properly, analyze wine from the consumer point of view, stu-

dents will get a broad view of what makes German wines so unique and appealing.

April 2, 2014 - Wines from California and the West Coast will be tasted and discussed.

California wine laws differ from the rest of the world but how? Learn the characteristics of

several types of grapes by both color, aroma, and flavor.

May 5, 2014 - Wines of France. See and taste what makes the wines of France often

times the most sought after wines of the world. Learn what grapes can be grown in what re-

gions by law.
