VIPS FOR THE MONTH OF JUNECongratula*ons to our volunteers for the month of June: Jeni Howell for all her help with No Place for Hate Club, Stacey Bowen and Nehal Patel for their work with PALS, and Monique Manning for handling AR Incen*ves. Thanks for all you do at Horn!
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION - EASY FREE MONEYThank you to all who have par*cipated in the BoxTops for Educa*on, Labels for Educa*on, and MyCoke Rewards this year. We collect these throughout the year. Please turn in any that you have now and con*nue collec*ng over the summer. We have redeemed around $2000 worth of BoxTops, but I know a school our size could double that amount next year. Turn in any that you get BEFORE they expire! Besides geSng the cash for the BoxTops (used to get cases for iPods that will be used in the classroom), we were able to collect over 32,000 MyCoke Rewards which we are using to get some equipment for the PE room. With the Labels for Educa*on points, we will get some equipment for the classrooms.
It might seem like the number of BoxTops, Labels for Educa*on, and MyCoke Reward that you collect aren’t that many, but when the whole school collects it does add up to a lot. Ten BoxTops equals $1. If every student collect just 10 BoxTops, that would be $770. Imagine how much we would get if you also asked friends and family to save them, too!

SOUNDS OF SUCCESS - COMMITTEE UPDATEThe Sounds of Success Family Giving Program commi\ee would like to say a special thanks to our re*ring members. Gauri Varadhachary and Angela Tang have been long-‐*me members of the SOS commi\ee, s*cking with it all the way through as 5th
grade parents! Many thanks to them for their ongoing commitment to the commi\ee as well as thanks in advance to Karen Marshall who also intends to see it through as a 5th grade parent in the upcoming school year. As SOS brought in educa*onal enrichment programs this year like The Magic School Bus and the Museum Dome, students have directly benefited from your commitment – a HUGE thank you to each of you! Anyone interested in joining SOS, please email [email protected] for more informa*on.
“MILLIONAIRE CLUB” - HISD SUMMER READING PROGRAMAll Horn students who read at least 5 books over the summer break are eligible to become members of the “Millionaire Club”, which is the HISD summer reading program. Summer reading must not take place before June 7th. The log-‐in forms will be put in red folders before the school year ends. Students simply need to write all *tles of books read over the summer on the log-‐in form, have a parent sign the form, and return the form to Ms. Batke in August to become Millionaire Club members. If a student loses the form over the summer, he/she may write the *tles on a sheet of notebook paper and have a parent sign it. The forms can also be printed from the Horn Academy website (h\p:www.houstonisd.org/horn). Click on the Library link; then Summer Reading Programs. Also on the library page, you can find links to HPL summer reading programs, different summer reading lists, current “Name that Book” *tles, and addi*onal informa*on on the Millionaire Club. The HISD “Millionaire Club” is not associated with any other summer reading program (HPL, Bellaire Library, Borders, etc.). Ms. Batke must have a “Millionaire Club” form or paper that has all *tles read for each student who has read the 5+ books.
There will be incen*ve prizes given out in the fall to current Millionaire Club members. Millionaire Club members will be able to check-‐out 3 books from the Horn Library.

SOUNDS OF SUCCESS FAMILY GIVING PROGRAM
Horn’s success depends on the support of Horn families and friends and the “sound of success” varies from one family to the next. Some families show support by giving their *me through volunteering, some donate goods or services, others choose to make a financial dona*on, and some gracious families support Horn in all of these ways. Whatever your means, we appreciate your support. The Sounds of Success Family Giving Program was created in 2006 to recognize families who make a financial dona*on to Horn. We are grateful to the following donors who gave at the Bugle level and higher for the 2012-‐2013 school year. The future is brighter because of the following families:
